This is what happens when you largely give up on the hobby...

Yeah this is it exactly, I am not on a ToU schedule so the month to month difference according to the meter is what it is. Now I do get a 1:1 sell/buy of electricity, however if there is a net negative (as in my case) of electricity I'm credited not in kWh but instead in money which is based...

This is what happens when you largely give up on the hobby...

... and have solar. Granted I don't have a huge amount of solar, 3.24kW of panels only, but yeah... not a single month this year have I used more power than I produced. Still don't understand that pay rate for it, technically it's not PG&E anymore (even though they still do the billing) so...

    Free Yellow Tang in Hawaii

Don't leave us hanging, turn the card over, what are the details on the back! That said it's been a long time since I've been to Maui, used to like to go to Cove beach (I think) tiny little place had a very small parking lot that if you get there super early (before 9am) you were great, but...

Anyone know anything about the mighty magnet?

They are a strong magnet not unlike a lot of other brands strong magnets. Way stronger than those blue ones you see at Petco or some place similar, they're also more expensive. There's nothing inherently special about them though other than they are strong. IMO their add ons are what's...

Wrasse Choice for a 40 Breeder / Where to buy a pink streaked wrasse?

No argument on the 6 line, but I kind of like the possum wrasse. That said when I had my big tank definitely was looking into a pink streaked, never came to be though.

Free Coral Tanks in Pacifica today

What's the height on these guys, doesn't look higher than 16-18" maybe? n/m, sent a text, 12" tall, should have figured it says coral flat.

    Water storage tanks.

can't get them through any doorway in my house to put them in the backyard (and the only other option is up and over) so nope.

    PSA: heatwave and pge shutdown

<Snipped rant, TL;DR i blame the power companies who haven't built out production to adequate levels, not the state... at least on everything except nuclear, that I blame the state> But ranting against the power companies aside, there is no ban on natural gas generators at least now on a...

    PSA: heatwave and pge shutdown

That's weird even though CAL-ISO(?) today was saying all over the news that they managed to get through the day without any rolling blackouts. At least today is cooler, or at least it is in SF, yesterday was 86° when I dropped my kid off at school, today it was only 67°

    PSA: heatwave and pge shutdown

My block isn't included either, which would be hilarious if they did shut me off, because shutting me off would actually decrease the available electricity even more due to solar and lack of big electrical things like AC, during daylight hours I am a net producer of energy. I do wonder if...

    PSA: heatwave and pge shutdown

That definitely is cool, "distributed power generation" should be a thing, and it should be a way to get rid of companies like PG&E, but alas they gotta own all the lines and every chance they get need to push legislation (the fact they do that is another gripe) to penalize solar customers.

    PSA: heatwave and pge shutdown

Wow, $2 per kWh? Yikes! Sucks that it'll just get turned around and charged back to customers though, like they couldn't do something similar already? I mean what is the Powerwall? around 13 kWh or something? Roughly 75 of them is 1 MWh, and there's quite a few more than 75...

    PSA: heatwave and pge shutdown

I've heard of them doing a program like that, elsewhere where there are major issues with electricity (compared to us), I want to say somewhere in Australia. I just can't imagine there really are that many Powerwalls that it would really make that much of a difference, like how many are...

    There was a fire...

I'm guessing an arc fault breaker could have prevented this, I mean that's basically what they were made for to detect arcing (which I'm guessing is what caused said fire)

    There was a fire...

Do so research on smoke alarms, ones that work via ionization technology may have a lot of false alarms in high humidity environments these tend to be the older type that has radioactive stuff in them (Americium if memory serves), ones that use photo detection method (think safety beam for...

Building my first pond! Any words of wisdom?

I would not advise heating it, granted PG&E execs will thank you greatly for adding to their yearly portfolio, but you should not even be thinking about making any sort of tropical (temperature) pond outdoors in this climate. You could build a greenhouse around it, but IMO that would probably...

Free boat!!! Runs, registered and yea.. its free

California parks official government site doesn't mention anything about insurance, a lot of insurance pages of course highly recommends it, although that one mentioned specifically says you MUST have it

Absolutely love this picture, the way the fishing poles are it looks like you caught yourself 5 ships, or are towing them.

Free boat!!! Runs, registered and yea.. its free

Is insurance something you have to have? Or is it simply like the main purpose of insurance used to be "just in case shit happens"
