    Sweet MagFrag

This is made with Emaco, a reef safe no cure needed architectural mortar - you can Dremel off pieces, but it would change the look of the piece, and that would be sad...LOL

Anyone use artificial reef rock aka "Real Reef Rock"? Opinions?

All things aside, I've worked with the Real Reef rock and I am a big fan. The new generation of their rock is actually pretty amazing - it is my favorite rock to work with - and I've worked with just about everything. My guess is there other factors besides the rock in your tank - had similar...

DRY ROCK & LIVE ROCK Discussion

Best place for small orders is Marc at Marco Rocks. You may ask around the club and see if anyone has some to spare, I know that there are a few in the DIY crowd that have invested in full bags and may have some lingering in their garage.. I've given up shipping kits as Marc is cheaper on the...

DRY ROCK & LIVE ROCK Discussion

IMO using Emaco for the build is the easiest process. Quick cure and reef ready at cure (20 minutes average set time). You can easily create a flat, stable bottom for your stacks. Emaco lets you do some amazing stuff...

DRY ROCK & LIVE ROCK Discussion

I've done a lot of builds that were dry rock only, using just a couple of small pieces of live Rock to seed the tank. They have developed just fine. I really don't see much advantage going 80 Live/20 Dry - that close you might as well go all Live. On the other hand, 80 Dry/20 Live will grow...

Just was in Simi Valley for the MASVC event and I built some 'scapes special for the show to let folks in SoCal see what jester can do. A few made the trip home, so I am offering them at the show pricing... First up a Tonga piece, 37.8 pounds 30 x 20 x 14 - $175

    Hang 30...

Built this one in early May of 2014 and I believe the customer filled the tank and started the cycle in late May. He moved most of the coral from his existing 120G after the initial cycle.

    Hang 30...

Thanks all - that coral on the end would have to get HUGE to tip this one...the magic is in the build.

    Cascade "Scape First jesterRock Build

I was referring to using fiberglass rods for some builds (I call them wraps, fiberglass wrapped in Emaco) - the jesterRock does not have a rock core...

    Cascade "Scape First jesterRock Build

Yes, that certainly works. I've done similar things using fiberglass rods with an Emaco wrap. Nice thing about the Emaco wraps, if they get uncovered, they look like rock. Acrylic always looks like acrylic...
