Building my first pond! Any words of wisdom?

I've had a couple of ponds. Above and below ground. But never heated them. Just a lot of water flow and a big air stone. Then all of the fun in surround, plants, and fish. For our in ground pond we went 4' deep to avoid a freeze in our area. For the above ground, it was under the porch and...

Diatom bloom after moving the tank

I just moved a 10g into a 20g. Same argo sand bed, same rocks, same water + 10g about 2 weeks ago. Had an ammonia spike and new cycle again. It's progressing quickly, but I think you are right about stirring up the system.

Anyone going to reefapoloza next month?

My wife and I went for a few hours on Saturday. We're not out looking for the $2000 animals. So, for us it was just looking, talking, and having a great time. Lots of really nice people in the hobby for sure. I was looking for interesting chalices. There was a TON of the same rainbow...

With your truck? How much coral are you planning on taking home? ;-)

One power supply to rule them all?

LEDs are generally current driven devices. So voltage stays the same, and by reducing the current we reduce the brightness. But that can be a problem for some of the long LED strings because the voltage drops as you run down the string. So, now we have variable voltage, constant current (CC)...

One power supply to rule them all?

Agreed, odd. There are a number of these LED driver power supplies.....but most have only a few reviews by comparison. Any of these certified IP67 Waterproof and that meet the power requirements for Voltage and Amperage with 20% overhead should work. Just a matter of longevity.

    Rock Star days?

We get to learn from mistakes and problems in these forums. But what about the good days, or even great days? Most days the coral look happy and all is good. But sometimes I have days where a particular coral goes into Rock Star mode! It isn't usually the entire tank though. So, I'm just...

    Favorite books?

Vernor Vinge....true names, the beginning of the 'internet' and a precursor to neuromancer, etc. Also, hard sci-fi by Vinge, "A fire upon the deep" and "a deepness in the sky". +1 for the three body problem as well.

Alkalinity seems off in fresh saltwater mix

At 78 temp and after a 12 hour mix, 5.7oz of IORC/1 gallon of RODI-0 worked for me. I'm going to mark the bucket fill height and get a marked jug as @JVU said based on these measurements. I'll do it again this weekend to see if those measurements line up on a second repeat.

Alkalinity seems off in fresh saltwater mix

Bag is 14.8 lbs where a bag is the bag from the 4 bag box of IORC. That is 5.92 oz/Gal or 168 grams/gal. I'll verify today when I make 4 Gallons in my 5 gallon bucket. -Thanks

Nano tank DOS and surface oil slicks

This is an Innovative Marine tank....as it turns out, they make a device similar to the one in the link. Called "High Tide Water Risers" which are found here: https://www.innovative-marine.com/shop/High-Tide-Water-Risers-Fusion-SR-Pro-2-30-120-gallon-Midsize-p394348299 The theory is that by...

...and then there were three! A multi-tank journey

I'm pretty sure that bright green growing speck is the mouth of a new Yuma now. Way more likely than the frogspawn and the color just matches a little better. Still and wait and see....but I'm narrowing it down!

Alkalinity seems off in fresh saltwater mix

I always check the current tank salinity to make sure it matches the incoming SW...right before I do the water change. If the device is compromised, at least it will match. But it would seem like checking it that way and also driving 1.026 act as a double check. But, with ato or dosing...

...and then there were three! A multi-tank journey

There is the spot between two micromussa right in front that is a dead-spot of flow, but also, too small for the turbo snails to get into. This is where a small twig of xenia landed and attached. I've been watching it grow...before I get in there and clean-it off once it reaches...

...and then there were three! A multi-tank journey

Oh, its been a while. Here are some current photos, left and right of the mountain tank. Montis have attached and are growing out. Tangerine Dream Chalice has added a bunch of new eyes in the lower left....the barnacle in its' base is still living. Notice some STN on the Forest Fire...

At what pressure does your RO system run? An what’s the TDS of your supply in what area?

We have a 4 stage with 80 psi at the house entry regulator at ground level. Our RODI is in the attic 40ft up and the pressure gauge when running says high 60s. I added a 6800 because I wanted to reduce waste water but it only drove it up to mid 70 and we didn't notice any difference. Input...
