IMHO, when that happens, don’t immediately put corals in; 2” is not a DSB but you may still experience some bacteria die off. I would use porous rock to have a healthy population of bacteria and the very top layer of the substrate

Question is, How deep the substrate will be? If it mimics a deep sand bed and you later disturb it to transfer it to the new system, it will be really bad. You can have rock running and drop some fish food once in while to feed the bacteria. The substrate/sand, you can rinse it well, air dry it...

BTW, @jstiltne the base of the cabinet comes apart from the rest of the cabinet; it is secured with star drive screws, either T20 or T25 driver bit. I built it that way so it could pass through small door openings (<36" wide) The PVC liner tub can be removed with suction cups.

I've used in the past a clear container big enough for the new mate; drilled several holes on the container to allow flow and just let magic happen after a little time; sometimes a day or two but it has worked.

Consider getting a thread/slip elbow and add to the threaded end a lock-line adapter so you can direct flow; even better, a Y-split lock-line.

I believe the old Tune 6100 pumps had a very long cord, they were the perfect match for deco rocks; there must be some out there.

If no luck, quick solution might be a bead of rector seal while you get the O-ring
