    2025 Contest Discussion and Ideas

I think a focus on increasing overall engagement on the forum is important. I feel like engagement peaks in the weeks leading up to frag swaps and then wanes until the next one. The engagement between swaps is often concentrated in the BST or PIF forums or among a smaller group of more active...

    Today I learned about...

Have both in my tank. Maxima and bumblebees. No issues. I’ve had bumblebees in all my tanks. Keep them as a precaution. Never had vermetids unless they came in on a frag but I’m pretty quick at dealing with them manually.

    Today I learned about...

Have always kept a few bumble bees in my nanos. Never had that issue, or at least not that I’ve seen. But I feed heav-ish.

    Today I learned about...

Pull each rock, wear gloves and be careful to avoid cuts. Vermatids can be sharp and cuts + exposure to saltwater and bacteria can lead to infection for some. Use a scalpel and make sure you get each one off from the base. Don’t just snip the portion extending vertically. Once you’re done, rinse...

    jack o lantern leptoseris

Thought I was looking at mostly skeleton, but if it’s just a bleached appearance but the tissues still there makes sense. My bad. Should be a nice piece if someone can help it recover

At all? I see a few sprinkles of life at best. Are you seeing a moderately healthy colony here? If so, man I really need to go to the optometrist

    jack o lantern leptoseris

Maybe it’s the pic, but that thing looks pretty dead

    DBTC: Scrambled Egg Zoas

Zoas can be like that sometimes. These were in fairly rough shape when I got them. On top of that you just fragged then again. Give them time. The ones I still have now all seem to be fully settled so from the last I fragged them to now, it’s been about 3 weeks. As for PAR, last I measured...

    DBTC: Scrambled Egg Zoas

Bumping this up! Have a few more to move. They are doing much better now than when I got them in and fragged them!

    New guy in Pleasant Hill

Welcome! Beautiful tank! I am not too far, in WC!

    DBTC: Scrambled Egg Zoas

Definitely. I tweaked the rules. The frags I have available are like 8+ polyps so any frag back in the chain is fine really

Thoughts on a UNS Reef Tank

Underrated tanks. I’ve only had a couple nanos, the UNS60S. One currently running for the past 4 years. Great tanks. Clear glass and the 45° mitered edges look very nice

Mounting AI Blades to a Kessil 360xe; Calling all 3D printing gurus

Ended up making the bracket myself… and were operational. I think it looks great!

Mounting AI Blades to a Kessil 360xe; Calling all 3D printing gurus

Blades have landed. Also managed to make a mount that I think will work great and looks sleek! Will post an update once mounted!

    Algae Identification

Appreciate the offer. Given how limited it was visibly, I’ve either tossed the culprit rocks or peroxide soaked the parts of the rock with the issue. Hopefully that resolves it

    Algae Identification

Apparently didn’t help with mine either cause I wrapped up a treatment not too long ago

    Algae Identification

Will the peroxide rinse for a couple minutes handle at least the visible ulva that I soaked?

    Algae Identification

My tank is small, so limited options as to what I can add. I have plenty of torches and brittle stars. I’ll have to consider what else to add if this peroxide rinse doesn’t help. I’ve already tossed the two smaller rocks that had the majority of it that I saw in the tank

    Algae Identification

Alright, so every rock that I can visibly see any ulva on has been removed and will be tossed. One of my rocks has my torch garden. I pulled it, hit all spots with the ulva with some peroxide and let sit for a couple minutes. Should I be in pretty decent shape? Don’t think there is much else I...

    Algae Identification

damn, I miss my live rock-less tank… since adding live rock I got bryopsis, sponges galore, now this stuff. Fun! Easiest way to deal with this?
