    Chez's High-Performance Reef System

You seem very confident, so you must be relatively new to the hobby. Welcome, and I hope your setbacks despite doing everything “optimally” are less painful than average.

    Hello! New to BAR

Welcome! Agree the rock in the far right/front looks like maybe a river rock or land rock? Not always reef safe, I’d take it out. Unpainted plastic without metal or anything else in general is reef safe but up to you if it’s aesthetic or not. Ornaments made for freshwater are not always reef...

Guide: Lanthanum Chloride dosing for Phosphate control

It’s what the cool kids are doing. Everything old is new again! GFO has gotten some negative publicity for stripping out trace elements lately too. Of course LC probably does as well, just hasn’t been closely examined or at least publicized.

Guide: Lanthanum Chloride dosing for Phosphate control

For a hobby tank, I wouldn’t use it without a skimmer. And of course dosing into or upstream of it. There are other ways to remove the precipitate like just a filter sock or other fine mechanical filtration. But the skimmer helps with mixing/dwell time as well as removing the precipitate. Some...

    Doser for kalk

Does closeout in this case for the linked pump mean it’s being discontinued?

    Doser for kalk

I’ve been using DOS for kalk. Currently dosing 5,000 mL per day. Haven’t had any issues with it.

    Neptune trident advanced replacement

I’m worried that the buyout by a monolithic acquisition corporation that doesn’t care about the hobby has intentionally left quality and support behind. I think they let go/lost a lot of good people both initially and when they moved the company. I wouldn’t be surprised if they currently don’t...

    South Bay Tank Tours!!! 04/26

I suggest keeping it simple and not putting additional requirements on the hosts. It’s already a lot of work and quite generous just to host a stop on the tour. For more detailed info you can look at their tank journal or ask them whatever individual questions come up.

    Stocking up before tariff hit

Sorry for starting the ranting about stocks. I agree with Will and others that if you are super savvy you can make (or lose) a ton of money with big bets when the market is volatile. I have friends and a close family member deep in that world and they are loving it. I’m not in that world. And...

    Stocking up before tariff hit

Good luck trying to game this everyone. I’m more worried about the stock market crash right now. So far my retirement has been pushed back a year for each trading day after the announcement.

    Looking to Buy Berghia Nudibranchs

Hmm this might not be easy to source from the hobby side. I have not seen the orange-tipped cerata species available for sale or in anyone’s collections. Only the white tipped species is commonly used for fighting Aiptasia infestations as far as I know. I used to raise the white-tipped species...
