    What is this algae?

Agree it definitely isn’t Bryopsis, and looks like some kind of green hair algae. Why are your herbivores not eating it? I don’t know. I’ve never actually had much luck with herbivores eating unwanted algae to the point of controlling it. Despite the current in vogue trend that they are always...

    What is this algae?

If you also siphon that into filter socks in the sump you can do it for as long as you need to without being limited by the amount of water you are changing

Why do easy sps die in a new tank and why is coral so easy to grow after 18 months?

The things we can test for (including ICP) and the things we add as supplements and equipment are a tiny fraction of what’s going on in a healthy reef tank. When we upgrade tanks and take everything from our old tank and put in a new larger tank, generally it’s fine on day 1. When we put lots...

    Hello! New to BAR

Welcome! Agree the rock in the far right/front looks like maybe a river rock or land rock? Not always reef safe, I’d take it out. Unpainted plastic without metal or anything else in general is reef safe but up to you if it’s aesthetic or not. Ornaments made for freshwater are not always reef...

Guide: Lanthanum Chloride dosing for Phosphate control

It’s what the cool kids are doing. Everything old is new again! GFO has gotten some negative publicity for stripping out trace elements lately too. Of course LC probably does as well, just hasn’t been closely examined or at least publicized.

Guide: Lanthanum Chloride dosing for Phosphate control

For a hobby tank, I wouldn’t use it without a skimmer. And of course dosing into or upstream of it. There are other ways to remove the precipitate like just a filter sock or other fine mechanical filtration. But the skimmer helps with mixing/dwell time as well as removing the precipitate. Some...

I’ve been using DOS for kalk. Currently dosing 5,000 mL per day. Haven’t had any issues with it.
