Guide: Lanthanum Chloride dosing for Phosphate control

It’s high enough to impact corals though-

PIF: various chemicals -pick up Oakland or swap

I have some no longer chemicals -before I dumped them so if anyone wanted them. Pick up Oakland or I can get them to swap with name on it somehow 1) TropicMarin balling B -2.2 lbs 2) carbo calcium -800 mg - opened but barely used. 3) two reagent A bottles -not sure how I ended up with...

Guide: Lanthanum Chloride dosing for Phosphate control

I had liked lanth in only that you couid lock in the dose and keep whatever PO4 level you wanted-with GFO -it seemed effective and then maybe too low.. and a couple times nearly stripped them out… With carbon dosing -could also keep PO4 stable -just not low enough..but based on Charles molar...

Guide: Lanthanum Chloride dosing for Phosphate control

Well my experiment with lanth comes to an end -with the most recent ICP test -it came back at…wait for it…11! Least didn’t kill my fish and most of my corals are doing ok. I will simply go back to carbon dosing -

questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

Def an idea to consider -although they don’t seem cheap! Things I have observed 1) cabinet enclosed -no opening -temp increases -low PH 2) cabinet open - temp lower -no change in PH 3) cabinet open with fan -really drops the temp and increases PH More to consider..

questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

Oof. Sometimes I think it really is difficult to get the chemistry right sometimes

questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

You are reading that correctly. I have had used a fan in the past with a cabinet open that def boosts the PH in addition to the main quest to reduce temp. This was just to see if there was a real difference in CO2 with that door open even with the circulation pump doing a pretty good job...

questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

Interesting enough I had taken off one of the cabinet doors up top off to allow more airflow. The goal was to see if PH would rise with additional airflow. Interestingly not -which maybe dictates water chiller over fans..

    Avast stirrer “drips” during day

Does anyone have an avast stirrer? If so -does your stirrer drip during periods when you are not dosing-or if you resolved -how so? I have one currently not in use but I took it out of commission due to this issue. But with low PH issues I am rethinking that..but that drip.. TIA.

    Pretty cool.

questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

Not really -fortunately though the temps have turned so it’s a non issue at the moment and we can take our time with it.

Circulation pumps that integrate with apex (not WAV)

Thanks @Thales -the WAV was purchased when I had the 90 gal display. Now I have a 55 gal DT and maybe run at 30% So in essence functionality>power I actually like that the sicce is smaller. In the meantime I will see if I can get that WAV back up to speed. No pun intended

Circulation pumps that integrate with apex (not WAV)

It appears that one of the Neptune WAV’s I have is toast. I’ll see if I can fix it but after 5 years of service — but… Are people using circulation pumps that fully integrates with apex such as the sicce SDC? But that is-for example get full functionality in type of method (maverick...

A broader discussion about skimmers / Tunze DOC 9430 - best skimmer money can buy? / Impact on phosphates?

Was using their bacto balance for a bit of time. Def inexpensive and worked fairly well. I can’t remember why I stopped.. but will resume again. As to the rollermat- def impacts skimmer operations a bit I found but at the same time it can do a lot to remove esp uneaten food that then breaks...

A broader discussion about skimmers / Tunze DOC 9430 - best skimmer money can buy? / Impact on phosphates?

@Alexander1312 -do you have a rollermat? That I found to be very helpful in keeping down nutrients-I can’t remember now exactly but it it was down for a week I really saw N & P jump. Do not get me wrong -I do feed heavy & w/o Lanthanum dosing through skimmer my PO4 still jumps. Awaiting ICP...

A broader discussion about skimmers / Tunze DOC 9430 - best skimmer money can buy? / Impact on phosphates?

The science say it does -but whether it removes enough is the question- skimming alone has never gotten my PO4 low enough. Maybe the beast above does -I can’t say
