PLEASE RSVP BY 2/21 for the 2/23 Members-Only Frag Swap at Mission Blue

I'm going to guess this was corrected in my original post; but TL;DR is "Too long, didn't read." Sorry, I'm terminally online sometimes so I forgot to clarify.

Request for bonus coral checker volunteers for 2/23 frag swap

Hello, all! The 2/23 frag swap at Mission Blue is rapidly approaching. Given some of the changes we're making going forward with frag swaps (see here for details), we're looking for volunteers to help head up the bonus coral check-in. We're trying to over-engineer this to start, so please reach...

Changes to frag swaps going forward

This is a less-than-fun post to write, so I'm going to jump right into it. Over the last several swaps, we've had a number of issues with people providing misidentified and/or unhealthy corals in the swaps. These issues have been particularly prevalent in bonus/ultra corals; compounding the...

PLEASE RSVP BY 2/21 for the 2/23 Members-Only Frag Swap at Mission Blue

We will be having a members-only frag swap on February 23, 2025, on the peninsula! Due to issues in the last couple frag swaps, we're making some changes going forward, starting with this one. TL;DR usernames on cups will be heavily enforced and there will be quite a bit more scrutiny...

12/3 ONLY: SaltwaterAquarium.com discount - 10% off all gift cards

Technically a black friday deal, but I thought this deserved its own thread. You get points with purchase, and you can also stack these with future sales since they're basically cash. https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/giftcards/

    Black Friday reefing deals/purchases?

Seconding this. I've always been very pleased with his stuff.

    Black Friday reefing deals/purchases?

Ended up caving and grabbed a few of those Klir DI-4 filter rollers to help with nutrient control.

    Black Friday reefing deals/purchases?

It does have a negative impact on pH. Even with secondary reaction chambers, you're adding CO2 to the system; that decreases the pH. The drop isn't noticeable on mine, though; and honestly, running a CO2 scrubber and a carx I'm still getting pH between 8.1 and 8.4 daily.

    210 gallon Dream tank

Good bit of labor to do, but it'll be worth it! In addition to the advice here, when you start working on your fish stocking plan there's an excellent thread here on Humblefish to make sure your stocking plan will work/you'll minimize issues between fish.

    I think I have a spare PM1 if you're interested.

    Black Friday reefing deals/purchases?

Given Black Friday is rapidly approaching, I just thought I'd start a thread for people to discuss what they're getting (and what deals they might be looking for). I know I'll probably be loading up on some Fritz salt with Saltwater Aquarium's 15% off MAP deal: https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/

    65 gallon tank

AFR would work, since it doses all three simultaneously (alk, calcium, and magnesium). The one thing I would be cautious about is that, due to how AFR works, you don't get an instant reading change. With normal two-part, you add alkalinity, it circulates through the tank, and raises your...

Reefing art plugs are a different beast

Reefing Art plugs with a massive frag of Captain Jerks on top. First candidate for the Double Secret Banned list.

Reefing art plugs are a different beast

Sounds like a violation of the geneva convention with all the nasties from our tanks they'd be coated in.

    65 gallon tank

Also noting that you should aim to try and do alkalinity testing around the same time each day for maximum accuracy. pH fluctuates throughout the day and night as a function of photosynthesis in the tank (and in your refugium, if you have one). pH also affects alkalinity. It's likely to not be...

    Hydros Maven delayed

My suggestion would be one of two things, if you're interested in Hydros but just don't want to wait for the Maven: 1. Pre-set up where it will be mounted in the cabinet, where bottles will go, etc. 2. Ask if you care about nutrients, or if you just care about the big elements, or if you just...

    Hydros Maven delayed

I'd like to be cautiously optimistic, but given the challenges of automated NO3/PO4 testing and the fact they waited till this late to announce a delay, I'm doubtful.

    Hydros Maven delayed

Also, responding to the second part of your comment: all we have is conjecture, but I'd imagine that NO3/PO4 testing in the format they're using (air bubbles IIRC) is probably challenging to get dialed in, which could be a reason for the delay. I'm a bit frustrated, since I thought, "Surely they...
