    Willie’s Last Aquarium Build

The unfortunate thing is that when things like that happen, we often do not know what was the reason. Specifically if someone as experienced as Will who did everything right had this happened to him at such a large scale. Maybe a a faulty ammonia checker/reagent etc? I have no idea what the...

    Old school Euro reef skimmer

Best skimmer shape. Probably a beast for those who can handle it.

Ecotech Versa dosing pump - potentially failing soon?

Switched the dosing pumps and the sound is very similar with another versa which was barely used. So in conclusion, looks like this is due to the larger amount of dosing within a short period of time, i.e., 600 ml+ in 30 minutes, vs. technical issues with the versa itself. Still, I am keen to...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

It might be I feeding them to much so there is no incentive for them to eat the flatworms.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

I second the six-line and springeri, I am not sure about the melanurus, but there might also be too many of them so maybe this is an unfair assessment. Regarding dips though, I feel all seem to work well for me, and they come easily off. The best dip was RODI but as I stated above, this is not...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Thank you. Looks like the time has finally come to get a pair of them. The only thing I am unsure of is, similar to the springeri, if there is a particular type which eats them (latin name). From what I am reading, these are the two types which should be effective: Synchiropus picturatus...

    Aqua plus is for sale

If I were to waste my money on a ridiculous expense, I would be spending it on this guy: https://surgemarinelife.com/products/captive-bred-rose-anthias

Yes, I have this guy in my tank. But I guess he needs help.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Tempted to buy a couple of more wrasses, but my son will not allow me to. This was a planning mistake when thinking of utilitarian fish and flatworms were not an issue until a year ago when we added the vegetarian melanurus wrasse.

Featured Ultra Coral Submissions for 11/2 Frag Swap

Looking forward to get my hands on some of these OP corals in round 57 when it is my turn. Seriously though, there were still quite a few of these corals left in later rounds last time which is great.

    Thomas' CADE Reef 1500 S2

Not sure if it is worth pushing nitrate more with the amm bicarb beyond where you have it now, since your phosphate is already elevated too. Keeping current levels should give the extra SPS growth without further polluting the water. But that's my view and you might aim for something else. On...

    L&B’s new red sea 250

1 year and 1 month since your last update, and all this teasing without pictures haha :). A phone camera filter costs 20 bucks or less. I might even have one for you if you come to the next swap.

    210 gallon Dream tank

Looks great. I might hire you to install a floating light mount over my tank haha.

The only wrasse I have (melanurus) prefers to eat seaweed instead :). Which wrasses did you add?

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Current status update, re the good, the bad, and the ugly. Flatworms (LPS, softies) are the biggest annoyance at the moment. I have no clue how to get rid off them in a non-medical way, and I do not have space for more fish, except some smaller dragonets, etc. Lanthanum dosing (to fight...

    RIP Lou Ekus

That's terrible. He spent an entire hour with me during the LA Reef A Palooza in 2023 explaining various reef chemistry related stuff, which I truly appreciated. I admire folks who can explain more complex topics in a simple way. Lots of highly informative videos with him remain as his legacy...

    Copper live rock qt

When I read this, I know why I let Kenny handle all my quarantine needs. I have never seen rocks in his QT tanks, but maybe he has. Regardless, effective quarantine is a critical success factor which a lot of newbies in the hobby are not aware off. Fortunately, I realized this early on and have...

    Copper live rock qt

I would use ceramic biomedia to quickly cycle the QT tank. That should give the benefits and hopefully none of the disadvantages.

    Copper live rock qt

The reason to not add rock into a QT, since not only does it absorb it, it might also suddenly leach back into the water when too much was absorbed, potentially killing its inhabitants due to overdosing.

Ecotech Versa dosing pump - potentially failing soon?

I ordered several of these yesterday as I was certain this was the issue, and my four versas are due for their annual tube replacement anyway soon. Not sure if you watched the short but it is running without any tubing, so unfortunately it sounds like there is a bigger issue with that pump...
