A tank journal is only required if the DBTC originator says it is as a special rule. It’s not part of the default rules. So it’s not a true statement that it’s “usually required for DBTC corals”. Mostly just the rarer higher end ones.

Just that zoas showing up elsewhere without spawning (asexual reproduction) is very common and zoas successfully spawning (sexual reproduction) in a reef tank is exceptionally rare. Like everyone’s personal experience vs almost no one’s personal experience.

I could see the tank plus equipment being a sweet raffle prize for an event. People like it all put together. After checking the electrical parts of the equipment hopefully. And if someone is willing to do the hard part of picking it up etc.

Nothing too insightful. They were growing slowly but steadily for me without any special attention but now have stalled out for the past few months. Also for unknown reason(s).

Time will tell. On the podcast they mentioned that a few professional tank maintenance people swear by it. So I presume it lasts at least for a while and a bunch of uses. It’s so much better at cleaning and so inexpensive (compared to reefing gear) that even if it needs to be replaced a couple...

I got the item Gerry linked to, with one round toothbrush-like head, and one pointy rubber head. They both work well. The brush one works better for the most part, the rubber one is better for detail work like between coral or in crevices, just because it’s pointy.

Yeah I bought it after their recommendation too. I like holding a siphon hose in the same hand with opening near the tip. Siphoning down to doubled up mesh filter socks in the sump. Catches most of the stuff coming off.

I’ve used it a few times over the years for bryopsis. Never had a problem. Sometimes 1 dose does the trick, sometimes a second dose right after the first course is completed if there’s some left.
