questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

I could be wrong but the aquarium chillers I have seen don’t require ventilation to the outside. Regardless of whether you get a chiller or not it seems like a bad idea to have a hood without a vent.

Vermetid snail quarantine. How long before they stop spawning?

During the first year of my reef tank I had a vermitid explosion. I literally had thousands on the underside of my rock scape. I completely irradiated them in my display tank mostly by dosing the calcium carbonate coral snow every few days for 2 months straight and added a few dozen bumble bee...

Ecotech Versa dosing pump - potentially failing soon?

I used to have the Jebao 4-head doser. 2 heads failed within the first three months. The ones that worked kept on needing to get recalibrated. Thankfully I found a good deal on a 4-head Versa and it has been working flawlessly. Looks like I may need to get 1-2 more dosers so may try the Jebao...

Ultra Coral Submissions for 11/2 Frag Swap

I plan to bring at least 6 containers of Stratosphere zoas. I assume most in the club will have them in time!

    Aqua plus is for sale

Unfortunate to see one do the reefing focused LFS go down. Very tough and expensive business to be in given the high cost of the Bay Area and the tremendous competition online. Hopefully the business survives in some form.

    Aiptasia?

I hope the aptasia didn’t come back. I had one pop up and battled it on and ofd for over a year. I initially spot treated with Aptasia X then ended up pulling out the rock and pouring boiling water and peroxide. Unfortunately, t kept coming back and eventually poppies up on a second rock then...

    Alternatives for Aiptasia killers

People say you can coat it with kalkwasser or use a syringe to inject it with lemon juice, vinegar or hot water. These kind of slot treatments never worked for me. It would kill the target anemone but it would show up again elsewhere. I currently have my Aptasia under control via a...

Hanna ULR Phosphate Test Reagent - Toxicity

Medical/lab gloves can be purchased on Amazon for cheap. I just put a box in the same drawer with my testing supplies.

What did you get at CFM?

Mine is super peaceful and it is constantly picking at the rockwork. When I first added it to my tank it swam in circles for almost two weeks—likely due to stress. Thankfully it settled in and is has been doing great ever since.

Who's responsible for the skimpy size limit on posted photos!?!?

Looking forward to the upgrade. I currently can’t post pictures from my iPhone since the default size is too big.

    WYSIWYG SPS Coral Colonies

You can buy marineculture that appears very colorful upon arriving at a facility in the US. If you buy that coral (either the colony or a frag), and bring it back into your tank the color can change dramatically. At least this is what happened to me with three different marine culture SPS. I...

    New to salt water

Welcome to the board. You should sign up and come to the frag swap in November. I have a bunch of MarcoRock around if you end up going the dry rock route. I won’t be using that MarcoRock anytime soon since I only use live rock nowadays. More expensive but reduces the headache of battling...

    AquaWiz KH Controller

I am pretty sure the margin on the device is significant but they are pricing it relative to the competing devices which are also high ticket price.

    WYSIWYG SPS Coral Colonies

No worries. Many of the hobbiest who purchase these colonies are degenerate coral gamblers. Every once in a while the lotto hits!

Nice pictures indeed! What kind of lights do you use on your tank(s)?

    WYSIWYG SPS Coral Colonies

You should also not assume that these SPS colonies come straight from the ocean. The largest operations in Indonesia, Australia, and Malaysia are increasingly keeping the best cool they find in the wild and then grow them up in tanks with water piped in from the ocean. You can sometimes tell...

    WYSIWYG SPS Coral Colonies

If you have a tank that grows SPS well the survival rate of marineculture should be very high. If people want to increase chances of the SPS pulling through they should frag the colony immediately. That helps ensures high light and flow to all pieces and increases the number of shots on goal...

    Coral ID

If you have to ask what the name for a coral is, it should not be sold unless it is sold specifically as 1) unnamed or 2) using a completely new name.

Electronic alk monitoring alternative to trident

Aquawiz is what I would get. Great reviews overall. Been tracking it for 2+ years now and don’t remember seeing anything materially negative.
