This is true, but you're also able to do large water changes frequently without much time/effort. It takes me 5 minutes to do a 50% water change in my pico so I do them often. I use water from my RSR250 to remove the uncertainty of precise saltwater mixing.

I use Red Sea blue bucket which mixes to 8 dKH. It seems like high dKH mixes like this are intended to replenish alkalinity (and other stuff) with water changes. I don't think this is optimal since it introduces Alk swings. I try to keep my alkalinity under 10 dKH since I always notice problems...

Yep. I've busted my hand plenty of times breaking open the canisters with short plastic wrenches. More radius = less force and also puts your hand further away from colliding with other stuff. I'll have to pick one of these up.

My last test was 1050 ug/l (over a year ago). I just mailed out a new one, but I expect it to be high like the last two measurements. Interesting, I wonder if it is coming from my Magnesium supplement. I'm tempted to send out a sample of freshly mixed SW to rule out my salt mix.
