I'd say the Squirt is around 4 or 4-1/2 ft above the pump. And, yes, I do have a bypass attached for the excess flow.

I use a Pan World 50PX-X, which is rated at 1110 gph.

Since your tank doesn't have a skimmer, just be extra consious of the nitrate levels, since you'll need to feed the guy quite often with meaty foods.
