    Jeff's 40 SPS Tank

Rygh… You know this is just something I’ve got to do more research on. I’d prefer to have no fish at all in this tank. In a 40g display I can’t keep any of the fish I like so I could really care less about fish in this guy. It’s more a question of am I potentially losing any beneficial...

    Luck w/Flame Scallop?

Hmm... I must have the worst timing ever then because I've never seen them in a LFS in this area. There was a LFS (won't say the name) that I visited shortly after I moved here that I asked about them and he told me they don't get those here on the west coast. /bad LFS owner...

    Luck w/Flame Scallop?

Here's the ones I'm use to seeing out East... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cJsY65R5-k&feature=related The ones I've seen here on the west coast just don't have that spark ;)

    Luck w/Flame Scallop?

+1 to what Gresham said. Though when I kept them I was out east and DT's was the brand we had access to in the LFS's there. No worries Gresham... your stuff is better. :) I'll also say that the ones I kept were a bit different from the ones here on the west coast. Forgive any ignorance...

    Jeff's 40 SPS Tank

Hey Richard, I'm intending for the acrylic sheet mounted (small) rubble islands to take up most but not all of the bottom glass... leaving some space on the sides closest to the viewing panes. I’ll have them cut in a irregular fashion to look more natural as opposed to square shapes. I...

    Luck w/Flame Scallop?

I kept an electric flame scallop in my tank in NC for over a year. They guy was always traveling around the tank trying to find a cave to hide in. They don't live very long compared to many things we stock in our tanks but I wouldn't say they're "hard/impossible" to keep.

Good joint for fresh live oysters?

Went to a place in SF called Cliff House a while back. View was great, food was average but the oysters were really good.

    Jeff's 40 SPS Tank

No doubt... I had one in my 80 when living in NC and loved him. He was mean as can be but I never saw a bristle worm in my tank. The big regal was still queen though and wasn't afraid to open a can on the dotty.

This is one of my favorite build threads out there at the moment. If I could pull off some aquascaping like this in 1/34 scale for my little 40 I'd be really happy. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1827226&page=10

Not sure if this was already said somewhere but I've not stumbled accross it. Is the potuck happening prior to the 1pm event or at 1pm?

    Jeff's 40 SPS Tank

Ya… my last tank I had a couple cardinals and they made the same weird noises at night also... strange... I liked them though. The dotty's can be mean but they also eat bristle worms :) Usually if you house them with other semi-aggressive and or larger fish it's not a problem. You never know...

Great feedback man... appreciate it. I'll do a test on some scrap acrylic first to gauge sanded vs. un-sanded. Ya, I’ve Googled and looked at several threads on faux sand beds over the past few days and I’ve not found one yet that is particularly impressive or well done… and I agree that since...

Here it is... Though I think I like Rygh's idea of a fixed LR rubble floor instead of trying to do a faux sandbed. I may try making a version of each and see what I like best. http://www.reefhobbyistmagazine.com/archives/vol_1/issue_2/pages/rhm_summer_2007_08.htm

Some great ideas Rygh... appreciate it. I think I will for certain go the route of doing them on tiles. I have about 5 gallons of nice looking 1/2" to 2" size rubble bathing in one of my Rubbermaid’s that would be perfect for this... and I can always make more out of all this extra live rock...
