    Whats going on with RC?

Dr. Ron's blog for today, as well as the comments will give you more insight, kinda fills in the blank JohnL's comments. What a soap opera.

    Whats going on with RC?

I thought Dr Ron and Calfo were just on holiday break. (at least from the forums). Any other details?

What reef tank inhabitant can do a 15 minute spawn?

I was treated to a 15+ minute "roman candle" show just before midnight, New Year's eve. There's been contrary opinion, but I still believe a sponge is responsible. Here's a pic: What do you folks think? Can a sponge, fist sized at best, expel this much sperm? A more detailed description of...

Is 'ethical' collection important to you?

Hey, crazzyreefer, how's the jimsar LE, all blued up under your lights yet? What a pleasant surprise to bump into you in SF ... we could have "swam" together had I known you were headed that way. Took me two hours to get back home in that deluge.

I see the hate for suction cups now!

No hole, just use the hardware that comes with the pump. The diagram show the swivel under the pump. With the "mod", you put the swivel above, which requires drilling a hole one of the parts. I know there's a thread on RC describing it, but I never saw it. I made mine after seeing Akacable's...

I see the hate for suction cups now!

Suction cups suck. Why not use the swivel mod? It requires drilling 1 1/4" hole.

    Softie hold downs

If the xenia is peeled off the rock carefully using a fingernail, it comes off with some kind of solid coating at the base. Then you crazyglue here, solid matter to solid matter, much better than tissue to rock.

Is 'ethical' collection important to you?

It definitely does, but the lost sale is only from this segment of the hobby. An LFS owner once told me that it's begineers who drive retail sales. Based on my personal experience, he's right on. Heck, I paid The Aquarium in Concord $19.95 for a thumb sized xenia frag back when I converted...

I need advice regarding the RC stuff

May I ask what exactly are you proposing? Nicholas suggested the same thing, and I've stated my disagreement in that RC thread. "Secret" makes it sound so sinister. BOD members don't meet face to face everyday, or even every month. The "secret" forum serves as a communications medium for...

    Tonga Frag

This was won at the raffle in one of our meetings - I think it was the one in October. The one where winners got to go downstairs to pick Tonga frags from ASAP's stock. This was placed at the bottom of the tank, about 2.5' below a 250W DE Ushio 10K and 80W T-5 actinic. Note how it has...

    LPS ID

I guess you're right, Rich, the color is green and the eyes (mouths?) are light orange. Akacable "stole" this for $10 with his TP gift certificate from the raffle and day-of-meeting discount.

    LPS ID

This was given to me last year by John (akacable) after his bicolor angel beat it up. He originally got it from TP. It has since recovered, grew by>50% and developed beautiful coloration. I'm so poor in coral names, (latin, english, filipino, don't matter) I completely forgot what it's...

    Pictures from December Meeting

OK, I decided to start a new thread with pictures from the last meeting. UC Berkeley's Dr. Roy Caldwell: The lecture: Technical Difficulties: Hanging out before the meeting: Hmmm, this smells like phyto feast

    Toadstools eat Phytofeast?

Thank you, I thought it was just my failing eyesight. Kinda logical, though, I mean all those polyps, for what? They've gotta uptake something more than just light for nutrition.

    Sponsor liaisons?

This might be the right time and place to throw out some thoughts and suggestions about sponsorship in general. As far as I'm concerned, (personal opinion, not BOD) ... 1. Club sponsorship is a 2-way street. Sponsors help us out, but they want something in return. Business reality. So...
