I’m gonna say that gfci might be bad. I still don’t see how you can pull 15 amps from that small aquarium unless your heater is bad causing the gfci to trip. That’s the only intermittent unit correct ? Crank the heater up and plug it in. Then sit there and see if it trips the breaker

Only the very bottom of the container gets hot/ warm if you add a lot to water. If you’re only adding a scoop or two then no. It won’t get hot/warm cuz the chemical reaction is super diluted. Just use it and check your mag. I’m sure it’s real.
