    I also pop it in the sump every several months, to yank out the detritus build up.

    I only run the polishing filter for a few hours at a time, I use the pleated cartridge. I run a polishing filter rather than siphoning my sand bed. For a wile I would “ storm” my sand bed with a little pump, blast all the gunk out. Let the filter pick it up. Lately I do it by hand, a little more...
