Potential Solution for SPS Pests: AEFW, Vermetid Snails, Etc.

Awesome video! I didn’t know they were that small. I bit the bullet and just bought one of those Flipper Magnifiers that hang on the glass. I figure the magnifier will be useful generally(or so I hope!). Yes, the flatworms I saw I assumed may be from my euphillia since the size I saw was...

Potential Solution for SPS Pests: AEFW, Vermetid Snails, Etc.

Fed a small amount of the fenbendazole flakes today at around noon. I was looking at the tanks with lights out just now and saw what looks like two flatworms floating around the water column. I was not sure I had flatworms since I dip everything but this seems to confirm their presence.

    Organism Id help

I have three wrasse (leopard, adorned, and a flasher). I have never seen them make any moves against my snails including the small army of small bumblebee snails I have in the tank.

Potential Solution for SPS Pests: AEFW, Vermetid Snails, Etc.

Yeah, I have been thinking about doing so. I really should pull out some rockwork and look at the SPS under my magnifying glass. Have had the unfortunate experience of pulling out rocks a bunch of times :( I am going to catch and house my Flame Angel for a month and see if polyp extension...

Potential Solution for SPS Pests: AEFW, Vermetid Snails, Etc.

These Angel’s Plus deworming flakes were also just recommended in another reefing video at the 41 minute mark. Incredible tank:

When is the right time to add an algae scrubber?

Yes, four times pellets on an auto feeder, one time frozen at night, and I also usually put in few square inches of nori in the morning (not doing so now since I want tangs to focus on the rockwork for a few weeks). I have anthias so it is recommended to feed them multiple times a day. My tank...

Potential Solution for SPS Pests: AEFW, Vermetid Snails, Etc.

I will post my results if I try the regime. The challenge I have is I recently did a major tank reset where I reduced my coral load by 75% (switching to SPS dominant tank now) so I don’t expect to see much of an effect either way. The issue I am trying to diagnose currently is my SPS coral...

When is the right time to add an algae scrubber?

I will admit that I actually don’t know what most people do but when I started the hobby I fed way too much which resulted in my tank showing phosphates levels above 1.0 for months on end and an explosion of vermitid snails. I literally had thousands of vermitids in my display tank. They...

Great selection of QT’d fish at High Tide

One other thing to mention is High Tide Aquatics is one of the few places that keeps inverts in fish less systems. There used to be a few stores in the South Bay with invert only tanks but recently started adding fish to their tanks with snails and crabs. This is super annoying since I do not...

Potential Solution for SPS Pests: AEFW, Vermetid Snails, Etc.

For those who have not seen it, a video was posted where Chris Meckley from ACI Aquaculture describes a method he is using to keep AEFW and other SPS pests under control at his coral farm. In brief, he is dosing into the water volume small amounts of a pulverized fish flake infused with...

When is the right time to add an algae scrubber?

I recently restarted a 110 gallon display tank + 30 gallon sump. It is only month 2 and when I started seeing my rocks explode with hair algae I went out and bought 40 snails (of which 10 were small bumble bee snails) which is in addition to my bare bones crew of 2 tangs, 2 tuxedo urchin, 5...

    Fishotel Copperbanf Butterfly came in…

Looks great! One day I hope to get a copperband. I have hesitated since I am not sure what I would do for feed while on vacation. Going your route by purchasing a CBB that is already feeding seems like a great way to go.

    Vermited snails cure ?

I had a massive infestation of vermitids 9 months or so ago. I literally had thousands in my 110g display tank, mostly on the bottom portions of my rock scape. It took 4+ months but this is how I got rid of them. If you looked in my tank now you will see zero sign of any vermitids. Even...

    RODI Pressure Booster Pump?

I also have an RODI Smart Buddie. One of the best purchases I made since it increases the water pressure and auto flushes the system for a short period each time it starts up. The flushing extends the life of the RO membrane.

    Substrate / Sand

I have used 3 types of sand which means I had to sap out my sand bed twice in the last year! ReefFlakes: Offwhite, medium or large grain size. Does not move despite relatively high tank flow. Primary con is that the larger grains of sand got discolored over time due to algae growth. Could...

Thoughts on saltwater mollies in a reef tank?

Saltwater mollies work just fine in a lower flow softies and LPS tank. They do not do well in a high flow SPS dominant tank.

I scored an Indo Gold Torch @ $60 locally

Glad to hear you had a good experience. Also nice to hear the pricing is becoming more competitive. I have been there a bunch of times but found it hard to pick up much due to the pricing. I have similar issues with most LFS so this is not unique to AquaPlus. Very tough business to be in...

MEMBERS ONLY Frag Swap - October 19th in the South Bay (PLEASE RSVP)

I have bought pods from half a dozen vendors (unnecessary I know). I recommend Dinkins Aquatics. Just wait for a sale which happen often. That said, I don't think it is necessary to buy pods generally. If you want to establish a pod population more quickly then buy once and you should be...

Complete Bonus/Ultra Coral List - 2024 (REVISED AS OF 2/16/25)

Thanks for updating the Bonus/Ultra list. It is probably very challenging to keep current! We may want to have someone charge of each category since it is hard for one person who keep on top of which are the hottest zoas vs. LPS vs. euphillia vs. SPS One suggestion: Under zoas, probably should...
