    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

I bought this Zeolite reactor while I was in Germany last week. I was hoping to get this or something similar somewhere here but was not successful. United did not seem to mind the excess weight :). At least, I am able to get the Zeolite media from here (Aquaforest). It runs a Sicce Syncra 3.0...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

I do think many people know. And the deviation from the temp is not typically impacting the results too much as a large part runs their tanks around that temp anyway.

Yes, those 4 electrode probes / conductivity meters are the ones tested against. I did feel the club should have one, but it was declined as not needed at the time. It could be eye opening how many of us potentially run a different salinity than we think.

Alkalinity on 3 different mediums..... and none match

I am not clear of the concern. Keeping it simple can help. As stated many times, there are certain tests which are known to be accurate enough: Hanna Alkalinity Hanna Nitrate (least accurate of the 5 tests though) Hanna Phosphate Salifert CA (and MG, if needed) Salinity is indeed the...

L/F leads on a possible frag swap location?

I was thinking the same thing. But I assume this was already explored and they probably were one of the ones that raised their prices significantly. Not sure why though.

    Real Reef Rock

Against contrary belief, having dead, aka non-live rock which adsorbs less is actually not a bad thing. The tank has enough surface area to grow bacteria without porous, non-live rock. A lot of issues people in the beginning have is that they have highly nutrient and element adsorbing dead rock...

    Light upgrade?

Great purchase. Just make sure you measure PAR, as these are sttrong lights. The facebook group has downloadable settings to import and to this date I believe I am still using Andrew Bouma’s settings.

I thought about the DMP immediately but I am not keen on going down the knock off path with any of my equipment (light, pumps, skimmer etc). Yet, my issue is with the dry side, not the wet side, so this might not address my issue unless their dry side works with my wet sides?

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Just to confirm - you are referring to lubricating the wet side, correct? I have been doing this for quite a while since @Darkxerox recommended this at one point I believe, and it is a very good practice to run the wetside very quite.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Many people run the MP40s for extended periods without an issue, but Dong I believe first mentioned that theres is a built flaw with them which makes them constantly degrade until they break down. Adding them to the back seems like a good idea. I just cannot tell if this is the ideal flow (I...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

I do not recall that I ever dropped them, but I cannot swear on my life that I did not. I dropped my gyres for sure, and they still work like a charm. So if dropping a 480 USD device once is their death sentence, then another reason for me to stay far away from them. Regarding breaking them in...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Continuous lower salinity in my ICP vs what I measured with the Hydrometer when I took the sample - I do intentionally measure Salinity, Alkalinity, CA, NO3, and PO4 at the time of ICP sample taking to compare the accuracy of my home tests and establish a calibration factor in the future. There...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Yes, hard to read and unfortunately not as accurate as it was often stated.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Thank you. I might look into this. What I fogot to mention is that these never run higher than 50%.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

I have high hopes for this device. Will send out the first Fauna Marin ICP on Friday, since I bought it, to determine how closely it matches my salinity readings. The moment of truth. MTC. It feels very premium, and despite my poor eyesight, I can easily read the readings...

480 USD for an MP40 (https://premiumaquatics.com/products/vortech-propeller-pump-mp40mqd-mobius-version?_pos=2&_sid=a07ae45ff&_ss=r&variant=47329565933810). I have/had two running on the back of the tank, frankly, only ‘for fun’ since the gyres do the heavy lifting. I bought them when the tank...

Protein Skimmer Smell (Smells Like Death!) – How Do You Combat It?

That would be indeed an interesting endeavor.

Protein Skimmer Smell (Smells Like Death!) – How Do You Combat It?

I would still like to know what your NO3 and PO4 were when this picture was taken, but I guess we will never know since I believe you said you are not testing your water.

    Popper's IM100ext part 2

One of the biggest challenges the hobby faces there are high energy cost, so folks are super sensitive to energy consumption of their devices (which is why Tunze and their low wattage pumps are so popular).
