    Grounding probe usage

Took me a while to get that table created with better sources, although some are still questionable, so not sure if 100% correct. What I am sensing from this is that a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) / GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is the essential equipment, and the probe piggybacks...

HTA Nominated for Best Fish Vendor on Reef2Reef

4th place at the moment. Need to rally more people.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Thank you. They are getting this amount of light, and it’s the place with the least amount of flow, but I am not sure that they are particularly happy. It’s only a few days, so hopefully they will improve, or I am misinterpreting their well-being.

    Grounding probe usage

Both the DELTEC and Abyzz CEOs seem quite convinced it is still useful, and Alex/Abyzz seems to have convinced Than Thein as well. You know much more about electricity, I have no clue. Will do more research. On the probe quality, that is true. It should probably not be submerged fully, and...

    Grounding probe usage

Jan (CEO) from DELTEC recently recommended using a grounding probe, and I remember I still had this in storage somewhere when I thought my yellow tang was impacted by stray voltage. I thought it could not hurt to use it, but I am curious if you are using one, and if there is a way to use it...

    Thinking about switching salt

Did someone say we should be starting a big debate? Let me give this a go since starting debates is my specialty :). I tend to agree that the salt itself will not make your tank more or less successful. However, this does not mean that the salt itself can be very helpful to get you there...

Mixing (German) salt - did you know?

I used the Tropic Marin salt in my first year of reefing and always had brown residue (from iron precipation apparantly). It could come from the way I heat the water, add salt, mix, and then cool down (to not waste energy while not using the water for a week) and then heat up again before water...

    Thinking about switching salt

I believe there are two broad considerations when selecting a salt: 1. Quality of the salt (production) - often indicated by 'instant' mixing capability 2. Target parameters of the salt For quality, I would only select salt produced by Tropic Marin, which includes the one John stated, or...

Mixing (German) salt - did you know?

That's interesting. So you never have to clean your saltwater mixing container?

URGENT: Power outage in my area

Yes, and that you do need a power backup plan like all of us who have larger tanks.

Mixing (German) salt - did you know?

I had issues with the precipitation of the Fauna Marin salt when mixing it a week in advance of using it again. I'm mixing 55 gallons weekly at the moment, and after three months, I felt I needed to clean the Brute container (white). For the record, I have seen similar precipitation with the...

Frag Swaps - Feedback and Updates

I am not sure if your suggestions was well understood. The focus on swapping items which are not easily or not at all replicable is an interesting idea tbh. This could/should be setup differently though as a ‘like for like’ trade would be less likely in a ‘random’ trade setup as we run the other...

    Thomas' CADE Reef 1500 S2

Sorry, how exactly did the incident with the heater happen? I know you have the king of heater controllers, aka. aqualogic/ranco, so there should be no issue with a heater in an on position (although it looks like your ambient temp was warm too).

Problem with Install - RO Unit for Drinking Water Install (including drain)

Yes, I have been looking at adding an UV option, but I am not clear what this means maintenance-wise and the actual benefits/needs this satisfies.

PAR Assessment - Nov 11, 2025 Still moving things around in the tank, but meant to do a PAR check, since the lights have quite a lot of power left. Except on the top, PAR does not appear to be too high at the moment so I could probably still crank them up. I have also added some favia which I...

Problem with Install - RO Unit for Drinking Water Install (including drain)

Not sure how you were able to get the water flowing out of the faucet at a drinking fountain speed. As you have seen on the video, this is slower even with a booster pump. The water supply is on a 3/8 line and fills a gallon of water in 17 seconds, so rather strong, and the pump pushes PSI to...

Frag Swaps - Feedback and Updates

In favor of NO more single zoa polyps. I normally do not pick up zoas but wanted to have another one to the exosphere (I believe) I got last time, and which is doing very well. The single polyp was gone after two days, something must have eaten it or so.
