    Help needed

I don't grow chaeto at all (never had much luck) but I was dosing CG for a while for my corals, and have to say it was pretty successful. I do monthly ICPs and the trace element make up of CG was nearly perfect for my tank, just have to watch the iron levels. It immediately turned colors around...

    Mastertronic automatic tester experience?

I owned the original MasterTronic. Too many reagents to manage, too many moving parts, too much to calibrate. You also can't really trust the Mg tests anyway, and I don't need to test nitrate/phosphate that often. Now that it includes Alk, it might be a compelling purchase for new tanks to keep...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

Why would a piece of filter floss sitting in your sump for a long time cause elevated nutrients? I don’t think that’s right. Obviously it’s not doing you much good filtering anything, but it’s not adding nutrients to your tank either. Probably growing a bunch of funk and looks really ugly, but...

Need a copperband that's eating prepared foods?

Totally, here's mine: Picked it up from Kenny about a year ago. Eats frozen and freeze-dried mysis from the auto feeder, keeps the tank aiptasia free, and gets along well with all the other fish. And I didn't kill a ton of them in the process!

Need a copperband that's eating prepared foods?

@under_water_ninja the longnose i picked up last weekend is eating now and seems to be doing pretty well so far. For everyone constantly struggling with aiptasia, i would highly recommend picking up one of the CBBs from Kenny.

    Thomas' CADE Reef 1500 S2

It's such a nice, calm, relieved vibe in the tank after you pull out a real chaotic asshole of a fish. I feel even the fish are like "bro...thanks for that, guy was a DICKhead"

    9 footer disaster

The egg crate trick is so useful, new reefers should take note. I did this several times (before my tank was too grown in) to separate and catch problem fish or acclimate.

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

Thanks for the kind words, I've got my share of problems too though! Just spent several months coloring up my Bill Murray back to a nice red and it RTNed (from the bottom?) earlier this week. It's always been such a healthy, easy, fast grower. Very strange. Also the huge red digi colony is...

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

Did a big water change (don't do this very often with AWC, but am coming out of an oxo treatment) so tried to get some top down shots with the water level low. Had to turn off the T5s to minimize the glare so the pics turned out a little dark: Also took some macro shots, also unfortunately...

    210 gallon Dream tank

Ah yeah I forget you’re in an apartment. If it was me I would just go with fewer tanks. But I have STS, the opposite of what most of y’all got :)

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

Yeah his color is now much better than at the dentist office too. He’s a real asshole but everyone has settled in at this point.

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

The magic of the mirror! There's a mirror taped to the right side of the glass in this video. You can see all the assholes totally obsessed with it, and the new fish is completely alone and peaceful on the other side. (sorry about the background noise, we are potty training our 2 year old :) )...

    210 gallon Dream tank

Sounds pretty sketchy - you may want to have an electrician take a look. If the breakers are 15amp circuits it would be a pretty easy upgrade to 20amp to open up some capacity without needing to do a ton of work. But if there's room in your panel you could just add an entirely new circuit as...

    How do you lower Nitrates

Herbivores don’t really “remove” it though - they poop it back into the system. This approach makes sense but only if you are manually pulling all of the algae growth out of the tank, otherwise the nutrients don’t actually go anywhere right? Not really any different than a refugium or scrubber...
