13,000 gal outdoor reef tank in So Cal

Super cool. I assumed he lived somewhere tropical, but it turns out he's in So Cal! Does anyone know this guy? I wish I had the space... and the money... and the time... and the climate.

    Should I move this goni?

I've seen conflicting info about whether or not goniopora of different type play nicely with each other. My green one has been retracted for the past week or so, I'm wondering if it's being bothered by the pink one. Should I move it?

    PizzaOven '25 Budget Build

Overall Budget Goal: I want to distill a vibrant and colorful reef tank down into a small but manageable volume of water. The cost of setting up a new reef tank is a big barrier in this hobby, so I'd like to show what's possible with simple equipment and some generosity from the club. While it's...

    Recommendations for ICP test?

I have no experience with ICP. I'm looking at Triton, ATI and Reef Labs... Any recommendations? I'm looking to do this 1-2 times per year, so cost isn't a huge concern.

A lot of talk about pH and coral growth lately, here is an interesting study...

Hi All, I've been seeing a lot of discussion about pH in the hobby lately. Unlike many years ago when I started the hobby, there is now a trend to chase pH. Guys like Chris at ACI have been very vocal proponents of pH as a primary driver of coral growth. Clearly, this works for him and his...

    Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

Hi All, Decided to start a tank journal for my RSR 250. I'm about 11 months in, so a lot of this is written after the fact. I decided to upgrade from my old acrylic 55g. Below is a photo of my mature 5 year old reef tank, which really sparked my interest in reefing: I really enjoyed this...

DIY Acrylic Top for Red Sea Reefer 250

This weekend, I decided that I wanted a lid for my Reefer 250. I love the rimless look, but don't love fish jumping out and the fairly high evaporation rate. Here is my DIY-ish solution for something that's practical and still somewhat aesthetically pleasing (at least to me, haha). Materials...

Does anyone run a re-circulating CO2 scrubber on skimmer?

I'm running a CO2 scrubber on my skimmer to keep my pH above 8. Using that in combination with kalkwasser, I've been able to keep my pH in the 8.15-8.3 range. Anyways, since the CO2 scrubber media can be a tad bit expensive as a re-occuring cost, has anyone here tried the re-circulating method...

    Hello from San Jose!

Hi All, Looking forward to getting more involved in the hobby and learning from everyone here! I've been keeping reef tanks for 8+ years. I just broke down my 55g, mainly because it was an old scratched up acrylic tank and I wanted to get rid of a lot of my soft corals. I'm currently 10 months...
