Alternative power back-up solutions (not Ecoflow brand)

Given the incident this morning regarding my Ecoflow Power Backup (refer to tank journal), I am considering switching brands. Has anyone used this one? Limited-time deal: BLUETTI Elite 200 V2 Portable Power Station with Car Charging Cable (Car Port to XT60), 2073.6Wh LFP Battery Backup w/ 4...

Issues with keeping livestock in a temporary holding tank

I am not a subscriber (or fan), but I have watched him in beginning when I started out. I think there are always a lot of learnings from big negative events, curious what you think led to the heavy livestock losses he encountered? The fact that he did not use a skimmer and/or carbon when...

    [PENDING] PIF - Icecap K1 50 Protein skimmer(s) - Walnut Creek - Supporting members

I am giving these both away together (!) to a supporting member (only). One is missing the power plug. They are both functioning. These are flimsy devices and I have lost patience working with them.

    Grounding probe usage

Jan (CEO) from DELTEC recently recommended using a grounding probe, and I remember I still had this in storage somewhere when I thought my yellow tang was impacted by stray voltage. I thought it could not hurt to use it, but I am curious if you are using one, and if there is a way to use it...

Mixing (German) salt - did you know?

I had issues with the precipitation of the Fauna Marin salt when mixing it a week in advance of using it again. I'm mixing 55 gallons weekly at the moment, and after three months, I felt I needed to clean the Brute container (white). For the record, I have seen similar precipitation with the...

PIF - Drinking water filtration (aquasana) - Walnut Creek.

Not sure if I someone wants this. The filter alarm is on, but I do not think they actually need to be replaced (it is on a timer I believe). It has the chloramine filter stage. FYI - This is not a RO system.

PIF - Coral - Walnut Creek

Does anyone want this? I am planning to break off a large piece to provide more light on the sandbed for new additions. (Pending name of the actual coral)

Interesting article: Using a new computer model, scientists simulated the stripes, spots and hexagons on a species of boxfish

AI summary - in case you cannot access the link: Scientists at the University of Colorado Boulder have developed a mathematical model that explains how the ornate boxfish—an Australian species decorated with intricate spots, stripes, and hexagons—develops its distinctive skin patterns. The...

    Anyone used this salt before?

I know some folks here love some good nostalgia - anyone used this salt before?

New Controllers from the AquaWiz builders - Super Brain Controller

I am getting more and more interested in this company. They seem to be able to develop good quality products at a reasonable price. Everything I heard from folks who use the AquaWiz is positive, except maybe the noise it makes when it tests. Their new line is now a Hydros competitor, which...

Coral ID - Which coral is this? Update: Montipora spongodes [for now…]

I could not conclude on the type of coral based on some of the pictures I have seen. I thought it was a Bali Green slimer but they look different.

High Quality Underwater Digital Photos - Hawaii or Guam Themed

Do you have or know where I can get high quality underwater photos with corals and fish which are suitable for large scale prints, should be from either Hawaii or Guam. I assume the photo needs to be at least 300 dpi but I know almost as much about photography as I know about plumbing.

Problem with Install - RO Unit for Drinking Water Install (including drain)

I’m currently using an Aquatic Life under-sink water filtration system for my drinking water. My source water measures 32 TDS, and after filtration, it’s still 29 TDS—so it’s time for an upgrade. I’d like to switch to a standard reverse osmosis (RO) system. My current setup does not appear to...

Challenges in removing chloramine in RODI setup

I wanted to tag on this topic here: https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/rodi-system-recommendations-and-considerations-and-which-ones-not-to-buy.38013/ But then I thought it might deserve its own thread. I am currently working on solving the following issue: I am testing positive for...

GONE - PIF - 5-gallon AIO (glass) - Walnut Creek

Max / @popper was very kind giving this tank to me a few weeks ago for a temporary project which is now done. It has been cleaned with sulfamic acid (only normal saltwater in the tank previously), and comes with the light (not blue). It works well and can run as a rather nice pico tank. It does...

A broader discussion about skimmers / Tunze DOC 9430 - best skimmer money can buy? / Impact on phosphates?

    - Just learned that this skimmer is not available outside the EU as of today (Oct 11, 2025). Also, due to larger footprint, it does require a rather large sump. They seem to be working on a smaller model - Has anyone tried this one yet? I believe someone here claimed that skimmer cannot...

Ecotech Versa dosing pump - potentially failing soon?

Does anyone know of a quick (potential) fix to address the noise issue? I assume this pump will not have too much live left in her.

FRESH Fish Eggs in the East Bay

Does anyone know where to get fresh fish eggs (without any additives) in the East Bay? I am looking for white or orange eggs, and/or lobster eggs. Berkeley Bowl seems to have some, but I wondered if there are other places.
