    Polyp Extension in Stylophora

BTW This guy came back with a vengence and is still growing. Not sure what caused the problem to begin with, but he's fine! Anyway I am selling the tank now - you can find my thread in the buy/sell forum. Sad!

    Polyp Extension in Stylophora

I just finished a few days of no lights to combat algae. Looks like it's on the way out, unfortunately. The loss of color and lack of polyp extension has progressed considerably, and it looks like some STN at the base already. What a bummer.

    Tamazula - A Biocube 29

Well - the GSP is still there and it's making a comeback. It was down to an unhealthy looking patch after all of the unpleasantness. You do have to help it along the branches (it doesn't grow 'down', only 'up'). I just cut off the little feelers that grow out of a dense clump of it and I...

    Tamazula - A Biocube 29

So I fixed the original list of pictures for the new format. In doing so I felt a lot of nostalgia for my old corals, most of which are gone due to the heater mishap. Tank is currently in its first 24 hours of the 72 hour dark period to deal with some cyano. We'll see how it does. I'll do a...

    Chemiclean and coral

I am currently doing one of the "no light for 3 days" things to get rid of some cyano that has taken over my sandbed. Going to follow it up with a big WC (~50%) to hopefully remove a lot of the nutrients that remain. I haven't tried Chemiclean but it's next on the list.

    Polyp Extension in Stylophora

About 8.2. Hard to tell with the API kit but it's definitely above 8.0 and below 8.4. :) I haven't seen the Angel do much at night - haven't even seen him. I'm under the impression that he sleeps but maybe he's up to no good.

    Tamazula's BC29 LED Retro

Thanks. :) I put a ton of time into it. I think the only downside is if I ever sell or get rid of the tank I'll have to say goodbye to all my hard work. :)

    Polyp Extension in Stylophora

One other thought - could this be a reaction to increased light? I cleaned the cover of the lighting compartment in my hood and probably increased the amount of light that passed through it (at least made it less diffuse).

    Polyp Extension in Stylophora

Fishin for ideas here... I have a purple/pink stylophora (that's what the previous owner said it was) that isn't looking so hot anymore. It has grown like wildfire over the past year - probably a 2" frag to several large fingers, see below. This is a pic from when it was doing well...

So bummed out. Lost almost everything....

I might take you up on that JAR, once I make sure my parameters are all good to go. I had a flat piece of your blue stag from one of the swaps (I think something that probably grew up onto your wall and was very excited about seeing it grow, but never got the chance. Whereabouts are you? I...

I do. Just noticed today my battery is out, but yea - multiple thermometers. Next time it'll be something different. :)

    Tamazula's BC29 LED Retro

Hi guys... been a long time! Here's an update out of nowhere. LED mod is still going well and has not had to be worked on, opened up, fixed, etc. Knock on wood. I really don't want to have to bust out those wiring diagrams and re-figure out what I did. Picked up a beautiful centerpiece Trachy...

Good Fish Combos for 29g Reef?

You can do what I did- just one fish, something with a lot of presence and color, and attitude. Got a sixline. :) It was going to be alone but I got my friend's Randall's goby/shrimp pair and they never bother each other.

So bummed out. Lost almost everything....

Well as they say... it's always the last place you look. In this case the last thing I'd suspect but I guess I learned my lesson. Months ago my heater broke (wouldn't run unless I jiggled the power cord where it enters the heater body). I replaced it with a slightly higher wattage Jager (same...

So bummed out. Lost almost everything....

I did chuck in a spare BC29 filter cartridge (I don't normally use them) since it has carbon in it, but I may need to stop by a store and get something larger. Was going to try and hit up the Norcal Reef Club swap and re-stock.... but honestly I'm about to go on a month+ trip so it's not...

    Tamazula's BC29 LED Retro

Mod is still running strong. Have it dialed down to about 70%. Any more and I get more light than I need and more heat than I want- both in my enclosure and in the hood.

So bummed out. Lost almost everything....

So the coral that I have left is not looking good. I'm not sure how long a "recovery" would take to kick in but the Duncans and Cyphastrea are still closed and sad looking. Clavularia are also small/shrivelled. Even the GSP doesn't look happy. The only things that are totally thriving are the...

So bummed out. Lost almost everything....

Found that my Chaeto had all died... plot thickens. It's either another symptom or a cause (or both). It's never died before. Did a 50% water change... will probably do another one next week.
