    DBTC Sea Hare

It suffered a strange death about 2-3 months ago. I say strange because it had algae to eat.

hair algea! cant get rid of them

One of my tanks had a severe hair algae outbreak. I tried many solutions: Sea Hare, GFO, water changes, lots of manual removal, etc. In the end, what did it for me was introduce enough competition: significant amounts of Chaeto. This is not my main display tank so I did not care. But if you...

    Rose bubble tip anemone

That is a stubborn anemone and admittedly happy anemone. Maybe you should consider keeping it and planning around it. Other than that, I don't know of other gentle steps to get it to move. Maybe covering it (which may not work if it extends around whatever you place to cover it). Good luck.

    Rose bubble tip anemone

Clarification: when I do this, I expect the anemone to move to another rock. I don’t sit there and watch it. It can take up to a day for the anemone to move but it eventually does. In my experience, the anemones liked moving to a nearby place where the flow is not so high. I had some 1.5 inch...

    Easiest mixing salt!

I like Craig Bingman’s trick: Get a nice plug-in type drill, attach a large paint mixer (Home Depot) and go to town. It creates a serious vortex mixing the salt. The water is crystal clear after a couple of minutes (and that is mostly to get rid of all the air that was driven into the water...

    Rose bubble tip anemone

My RBTA has its leg stuck under a a large rock and it will extend and surface wherever it pleases without moving. So, I got it to move by placing objects where it liked to pop out (a bunch of chaeto) so it had no option but to move locations. I’d point some nice flow at it to force it to move...

    Using/cleaning refractometer

I follow the same procedure other than I use paper towels to clean acrylic that I got from Tap Plastics. I clean in between every single test.

    Moving established 40b reef

I got a 40 gal from another member about a year ago. The move went well but I can tell you that the cycling process took a toll. I've been fighting hair algae in that tank for a good while and it is a "nice" challenge. So, my only advice is to go very slow once you get it going again, and keep...

Talking about the tour, I didn’t log it in my calendar. When is it? BTW, are we meeting this Saturday or is that the time slot for the tour.

    No power

I have the small generator from Harbor Freight. Rated at 800W. It is a great little back-up unit other than being rather loud. You can pick one up new for about $100 when on-sale. I’m keeping mine as it is truly portable.

    No power

Thanks guys. Power came back around 3PM this afternoon. All critters are very happy. Biggest lesson for me: get a bigger generator. If this had happened in the winter the little generator would have struggled with all the heaters required to keep main tank, refugium, & anemone tank going.

PG&E crews are on it . The fire did a good number on the box. They've got to dig it out, replace it, and run new wire. That sounds like a big job to me but they are optimistic they can get it done by the end of day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
