The bulk mylar bags I am using are resealable. 4 refills per bag. They have a 18-24 month shelf life. I am struggling with high TDS source water too, so I go through a lot of it. I actually need to change my resin tonight. But I ordered a few cases of resin to help offset the cost. I sold a...
Unfortunately, being far away from you is inconvenient for you. So paying for their shipping direct is probably easier. But if you plan ahead, I'd be happy to provide you with your filter replacements when we are able to meet up. I can also bring in any of the hardware they provide.
Are you...
You would still be dosing the eff of the CARX...correct? So still dosing. Also, depending on which dosers, the little spikes you speak of are insignificant if done in small doses spread throughout the day. Especially when "flash mixed" in high flow areas.
Also, speaking of old school and the...
I've been very happy with the sodium hydroxide solution I am using for my alk. Definitely will be utilizing that as my primarily alk supplement as I begin my transition away from kalk. That does mean I need to dose calcium. So my plan is to utilize the hybrid balling method. Calcium chloride...
Haaaa haaaaaa... BUT BUT... that's not supposed to happen when you use kalkwasser?! ;) :p LMAO
I do believe that kalkwasser dosing does indeed lead to precipitation in the display and binds up traces. An issue I may be experiencing in my 50. The only tank currently on it. The exact amount is...
Ok... so this was 8 years ago. I just do not see how adding kalk powder to a sump would be a good idea. Common practice is to only use the liquid as a certain amount will precipitate when mixed at too high of a ratio. Unless you go with the Meckley methodology which @derek_SR prefers, and it has...
I wanted to laugh at your post just for this statement. I think you are mostly joking... right?
Your opinion is not wrong. Just different than how others feel because they are comfortable with it. Nothing wrong with that either.
I am currently using Sodium Hydroxide for my alk. A recent experiment that is going great. It's incredibly effective at providing high amounts of alk with far less liquid to dose. You would need to dose Ca separately though.
So in essence, you are doing a 2 part by adding CaCl to your dosing...
What?! That sounds like a horrible idea. Any chance you remember where or when he talked about this? I'd be very interested in listening to the whole conversation to understand that logic. It would only be a small amount that could be added to minimize precipitation. Which who would...
 How did it go? I am just now seeing the tags for this to get it posted on the socials. I was on-call that week and I don't think I logged in most of that week. Sorry.
Whatever you all want, just let me know. I changed it to this based on what folks said that monthly was too frequent...so I'm not really sure what to say. It was literally "featured" on the front of the forum for the past couple months. If the interest has dwindled for these contests, then the...
My apologies for the delay. Work has been brutal and I am just now logging back in to get caught up with BAR life. Join me in congratulating...

Welcome to BAR! Glad you are here. This is an awesome community of folks with lots of experience. I'm a newbie too. Please look around, utilize that search function, and ask questions. Someone here is bound to know the answer.
I have been tweaking the dosage for the past week. Alk consumption has been met and slightly exceeded. My initial dosage estimate was a little too high. Nothing drastic or brutish ;)
So after 4 days, I dialed back the dosage by quite a lot. I experienced some precipitation on the first day, but...
