3D Printing Question

Hello everyone !

Been a while since posting something.
I just have a question that relates to 3-D Printing, not a request at the moment. Can something be 3D Printed in clear red acrylic?
Thx in advance !

Do you want it reef safe? I have "transparent" red petg but it doesnt really print clear. If it doesnt need to be reef safe I have a resin printer that can print clear red.

No. Generally it's quite difficult to print transparent anything. There is transparent filament, but the process leads to it not actually being transparent in the end. 3d printing is equivalent to a really complicated hot glue gun, using plastics instead of that glue. The imperfections and edges and ... make it not actually transparent afterwards.

You also can't print acrylic per se, but there are a variety of different plastics out there you can use with different qualities.

Edit: Eric's point about resin prints is separate from what I was referring to. Good points, though very different process.

It's just a thought I had for a while now to 3D print the rear lenses of my car; I'm clueless with 3D projects so I thought to ask here. Lenses have crazing and prices on eBay range from ok-ish for used ones to about 150 each for reproduction lenses.

Those lights can get pretty hot if u don't have leds so material would need to be able to handle heat.

There are some LED tail-light bulbs on the market; bought a pair maybe 20 years ago, didn't use them and cannot find them. Good-guys event is this weekend so most likely I'll get a pair or two since I think LED tech has grown enormously but my car doesn't care about electronics that much.
Car was supposed to be ready for my daughter's HS graduation and my son to drive her but there was a little hurdle on the road, greenbacks...
