Alk precitipate

Well, I learned some chemistry today. I accidently dose kalk slurry in my tank for a few hours. I only noticed when the tank get cloudy! I think corals seems to be okay ( I hope). Ph went up to 8.7 , alk at 7.7 ( from low 7) . No major harm I thought. Later in the evening, Alkatronic registered Alk at 5.5. There is a layer of white stuff on the glass as well as a white coating on gha. All the gha appear to be melting away! Corals still looking fine.

From what I read, high ph can cause alk to precipitate . This explained the low alk, and the white stuff all over the tank.

Gradually bring the alk up to 6.5 and wait 24 hour before getting back to 7’ish.

Assuming no harm to coral, I got rid of most gha! I don’t recommend using this methods intentionally. Haha

I'd manually test the alk to double check. Very possible for the alkatronic to get a weird set of readings too.
