December Reef Tank Spotlight is The_Lazy_Reefer

One reason I didn't want to go with a mixed reef, SPS grow slow enough that I can clip/cut and move as necessary and not worry too much.

Although I had to put my acan lords in there, since I am a sucker for those... and didn't want to have to deal with calcium/alkalinity on my soft/anemone tank

Yea as the years go by and I’m becoming more successful at keeping things I do see the benefit off maintaining the peace in a tank being way easier.

Beautiful! It’s impressive that after only half a year all the rock work is crammed with anemone or euphyllia gardens (actually fimbriaphyllia as we now know everything except torches to be). Are you keeping your tank torch-free for compatibility reasons or thinking about adding those too?

I love torches and have a few! They certainly don’t play nice with anything besides themselves so I have them tucked in the sand

Also it was a tank transfer from 3 packed nanos so within a week after setup it was already 75% stocked so the 6month thing is deceiving as most of the livestock I’ve had for years now.

Well all those videos/photos were from a month ago before cyano got me good. Put in the time this week and cleaned her up.

A long overdue sump cleaning went down today. Figured I’d spotlight the not so often seen side of things.

@The_Lazy_Reefer Do you empty your sump with the Buckethead???! I never thought of using that! It can suck everything out? My sump gets so much sediment in it and when I drain it down then stir it up and try to use an old powerhead it always seizes from all the solids. My return section is the worst bc I have to remove my skimmer. I have only used the Buckethead once when my RO overfilled badly and it saved my tail. If it can do this too, it will be a new era for my sump!

After reading countless threads this bucket head was sure the way to go. Pulled out 2 buckets of gunk then once the water level was lower went to town on the walls scraping everything and then vacuumed out 2 more buckets for a brand new sump area. Well worth the 30$ investment
