Get to Yosemite!

Trust me I WANT to get to Yosemite. However reservations to camp there are next to impossible now. Wawona's road is closed due to construction or something, as a result they're tentatively not opening until late may/early June. That rockslide last year took out a bunch of sites in the valley, the overflow sites like Crane Flats don't open until much later in the season.

I've been looking, my window of opportunity when I can go is very small, about 10 days from today with a 5 day window.

Oh and there can often be snow at higher altitudes all season, last year around June there was still snow up towards Sentinel Dome, it was quite funny to be there in Summer and see deer tracks in the snow :D

Yeah, I like to go a little more rustic when I go. You can sometimes get lucky with last minute cancellations, but for the most part you need to reserve well in advance. Although one of these days I would like to stay at one of those old lodges and live it up like a king :D

I so need to make a trip to yosemite. It would have to be a 1 day turnaround or find a place to stay friday night and drive back sat night given the lack of camping options.

Nice rainbow there no that last shot. Last time I was there, I was trying to catch that on both falls, but ended up with nothing. :(

My buddy with the camera, checked a university's research on best times and locations for viewing that night. It ended up being 12-1:21am at Sentinel Bridge and that spot, it was across the meadow.

Wow, great photos. I really want to take the kids. Are there family friendly areas? How much was the stay at Curry Village per night? We have never been there, and it is on our list of places to visit.

Sherri, in July Curry Village was crawling with kids and people from all over the world. Your family would have a blast there in the tent cabins.

It was around $90 a night for the tent cabin. The whole park is kid friendly. You can rent bikes and ride them around the valley, or you can drive and walk to a lot of the falls.

I think Bridal Veil falls is a quarter mile on an easy path. Glacier point is a park your car and walk up to the gift shop and scenic area maybe 200 yards from the parking spot :D you get a large view of the whole valley.

I went a couple years ago in the middle of a drought and Bridal Veil falls looked quite ummm looked like someone at the top was squirting a spritzer bottle every couple minutes. Last year however it was magnificent, not as good as this year, but man o man. Still give my girlfriend crap over it since she was "oh you gotta see this..." uh huh... :D

When I was there this last weekend Bridal Veil was my favorite, we got there and there was nothing but rainbows everywhere you look. It was pretty amazing.

Yeah when I went I didn't want to take my camera out because there was so much mist from the falls, the time before you could literally walk all the way to the side of the cliff because there wasn't any water.

The 'veil' was being blown in a loop back over the cliff top when we saw it. It would then build up enough water to fall over, then get caught in wind and turn up again. Entertaining.

I liked just being in and sitting by the river at the multiple day parking/eating spots. The walls of the canyon soaring overhead. Some kind of humble.
