MJ with sureflow kit

Anyone has issue with this thing? I got me one today. If it spins the right away when it's plug in then it works pretty good. If not, it can't correct itself >:( .. 95% of the time it doesn't. I have to stick my finger in there trying to correct it. ::) .. I use the small prop with the MJ600.

I got the Ecomod on my MJ1200, I think there is a corrector in there too, basically it's a tab that sticks if it goes the wrong way I believe.... downside of this mod there's no mounting brackets or anything since obviously you can't mount it in the traditional MJ way.

yeah there is a stopper (a tab) but when the prop hit the stopper, it doesn't correct itself. It supposes to spin the other way but it's not.

I have a MJ900 with sureflow kit in my frag tank and pretty much every time I turn off power and turn it back on it does not start by itself. I have to lift it partly out of the water and knock on it several times to get it to start. It has done this since it is brand new.

For the other powerhead I didn't want to use a MJ so when power goes out and comes back on while I am not home I will at least have hopefully flow from one powerhead, the Koralia, instead of two powerheads.

What do you mean with going the wrong way Mike? Can they start up with the motor running in the other direction and that tab is supposed to stop it and make the motor start turning the other way?

Yup that's what he's saying..

Mine starts almost always with no problem. It might stutter a bit in the beginning but then works fine. Running the small prop on a 400.

Its not so much the motor spinning the wrong way, IIRC its simply an electromagnet that switches polarities but is fixed inside your pump housing, so the only moving part is the impeller, once you flip the motor simply switches from north to south back and forth and the impeller gets attracted in one particular direction that IIRC is random 50/50 chance which way it'll start. Now this ordinarily wouldn't be a problem because of the design of the MJ the impeller is simply a flat paddle wheel design with no pitch to it, but when you put on one of these kits with an impeller that does have a pitch and a particular direction it's supposed to go then direction is important.

Well the red bubble grape seem to like it ::)

I did have one with that issue but no longer does it, what bugs me now is the steel rod rusts and breaks at either end.
Went to the hobby shop on Ocean Ave, close to Aquatic Central and bought one stainless steel rod (they did not have ceramic) and cut it to the size to replace the bad ones and seem to work OK, time will tell.
