About time I start a tank journal to keep track of where all my money goes. This could be a good or bad idea?! [emoji33] I started the tank in January 2018 but most things were transferred over from my previous CadLights 45g shallow Artisan II tank. Long story short, Reefer arrived with a shattered back wall, replaced it with another Reefer I got from a friend that had a cracked overflow. Used some DIY skills and fixed it with black acrylic from Taps Plastic. Worked like a charm!

Equipment:
Red Sea Reefer 250 with White stand.
Red Sea screen lid.
Kessil AP700 with mounts.
2 x EcoTech VorTech MP10wes.
EcoTech VorTech MP40wQD.
Apex Jr with EB8.
AquaMaxx ConeS Q-2 skimmer.
Bubble Magus dosing pump.
Tunze ATO Osmolator 3155.
Advanced Acrylics 7g ATO reservoir.
Kessil H80 Tuna Flora refugium light.
BRS GFO/Carbon reactor.
Cobalt Neo-Therm 150w heater.
Ehiem Compact+ return pump.

Livestock:
It's always changing but currently,
Bonded pair of Ocellaris Snowflake Clownfish from LiveAquaria
Purple Tang
Blue Tang
Yellow Tang
Mystery wrasse
Flame Hawkfish
Orange Firefish
2 x Cleaner shrimps
Blood Red Fire shrimp
And tons of hermits and snails

Did a really good job on that repair job. I remember seeing that tank when it was offered and remembering days of old when my mind instantly went to "I can fix it!" ... however considering the "I don't want to know how many years" I've been slowly moving on my own tank build... yeah I didn't want any part of that :D


Should have a lot of fun with that tank.

Yeah the overflow is Black glass with plastic pieces for the overflow teeth. It was pretty easy to remove the broken front glass panel and Black silicone with a sharp razor blade and patience. Made a template out of cardboard, took it to Taps and replaced it with 3/8" thick smoked acrylic and ASI Black silicone sealant.

Thanks! The guy I got the rocks from said it was made by Jester6. Tangs and most of the fish are new. I meant most of the equipment and corals and anemones was transferred over from the old tank. Tangs will be moved to a friend's 180g once they get too big.

Looking good so far. Are you using a gate or ball valve on the drain of the fuge? If so, I'd be careful with that single drain. Even with the strainer, chaeto can (and will) get stuck in that gate valve or even stuck in the strainer and will cause an overflow.

Thanks Randy. I'm not using any valve. Lol. The reactor fills up the ATO reservoir and it's a flex tube downpipe. Still haven't finalized the plumbing plans yet. Need to stop procrastinating and install my Vectra L1. I need to find time and come check out your setup.

Are you actually running water through it now? Without a valve, I'd imagine that it's real loud. Unless of course, you have enough flow through it and I mean a lot.
 
Nice modifications on the ATO unit to refugium. I've been watching a few videos on how to cut the glass, but never tried it. Good to see someone has. My ATO is sitting in the garage collecting dust, I just might try to attempt this.

Yup running with water now. Currently it gets filled up by the reactor powered by a MJ1200 and drains down into the last chamber with the return pump. Not much flow at all. The tube goes all the way down so it actually runs silent.

Thanks! It was super easy. I was hesitant as well. I actually got inspired by Randy's build thread to finally do it. It was my first time cutting glass. Bought the drill bit from Amazon for cheap.

Update from a few weeks ago:
Switched to the Kessil AP700 for a cleaner look. Loving the shimmer. Corals and anemones seem to love it too.

Bought the Red Sea Customizable Aquarium Net Cover kit plus the zig zag corners needed to go around the AP700 tank mount from Neptune's for $65 total. Took me about an hour to build since I wanted the fit to be perfect. A must have unless you like finding fish sticks on your floor.
