TDS creep question

Recent rodi threads got me curious and after a bunch of reading got a question about tds creep. At idle, the h2o in the product (clean) due to osmosis will migrate to the waste side of the membrane. Thus the product will have less h2o and higher tds percentage, though the same amount of tds. It isn’t that tds is moving from waste to the product. Is that correct? If so the amount of h2o moving from product to waste for single membrane rodi should be pretty minimal, say a cup at most?

Whats your concern?
Think also depends on how long ur rodi system sits unused. I run about 20-30 gallons every three weeks. I get 2-3 TDS when I first turn on the rodi but need to run minimum 1 gallon to clear it out so run two gallons on average. I know some people who flush once a week on schedule who don’t go through alot of rodi ..Trapped air can also increase tds at idle so every month I kinda tilt, tip the unit around while running in case anything is trapped especially after new cartridges you hear bubbles releasing. In stored rodi I haven’t had any issues with tdi creep maybe will leave some uncapped just to test and see how long it takes..

Thx for reply. No real concern, more just curiosity about how these systems that our tanks depend on really work. Also if some of the mantras being passed around really matter in real world applications.

I understand that sentiment. I am currently trying to learn much more about that than I ever wanted to know....

A friend was getting rid of his automatic water distiller a few years ago and offered it my way.. All stainless think about 12 gallons a day production. Had one carbon cartridge on the output mainly just for taste. But the electricity cost was around 50 a month for about 2 gallons a day I needed for top offs not to mention water changes so I passed..Now if I baked more loafs of bread weekly may have been worth it since I use distilled ..Wife wasn’t going for it !! Lol
