Took Over Daughters tank after she went to college. Added Sea Urchin to combat Carpet Algae

My daughter is off to college and I moved her tank from her room to the living room. She always had an issue with Algae. So much so that it looked more like a Refugium rather than a fist tank. After all the cleaning and water changes carpet algae keeps growing in thick. Phosphates, Nitrates constantly near Zero. Added a Tuxedo Urchin and it looks like it is grazing about a square inch per day. Will be interesting to see what happens. Just wanted to relate my story.

With algae outbreaks you can't always trust testing as it can be tied up into the alage itself. I've heard mentioned on a few occasions. So probably best to keep a casual eye on those numbers. Good luck

I am very aware of that. But I would have thought I would see some readings of Phosphates, Nitrates, etc after I have scrubbed every rock clean of algae and vacuumed the sand. I have two tanks both of similar size of 15 gallons and hers is full of carpet algae that I have been hand cleaning for months. They both have similar setups so I just thinking that the carpet algae has just established itself so well that I needed a little helper. So far so good but I just introduced the sea urchin over this weekend and it is cleaning about 1 square inch a day.
