Cali Kid Corals

Before I add a fish?

Im hoping to get some feedback.

Neptunes has baby red sea sail fins. I am considering adding one to my system. Knowing if I do it should be my last fish.

I know this fish can grow to 12 inches or more.

This fish is currently the size of a dime.
Current stocking is
1 3 1/2" Yellow Blly Blue
1 3" Black Ocilaris Clown
1 6"Diamond Goby ( badass fish!)
1 4"purple firefish
1 4" Mocosker Flash wrasse ( sure to jump out again any day)

Tank is a 48x24x24 mixed reef been up since 7/3/2010.

What do ya think?

I think I might be pushing it.

I got 2 of them from the same place Neptune did (last tuesday)
At the moment these tiny sailfins are very fragile. I have mine in an isolated tank with 5 dime size yellow belly blue tangs. I feed crushed flakes several times a day.
My concern is the blue tang that you already have.

Good luck

I really want one of these, but will not buy one just to have it fail. (I've only killed one fish in years but I dont count neons..)

If you plan on parting w/ one, PM me when your ready to part with one.
I wont shop for another, I'm a patient guy.

Sailfin tangs are one of the most spectacular fish to see cutting through the reef.

One of these days I'm going to get a tank large enough to house a school of them. :p

It will take years to get to 6"
It might not get to much bigger than that in a closed system.

I have seen 2" grow to 6" in two years, and more so that then being stunted as you suggested. Probably best to error on the side of caution with such a boisterous fish.

Thanks Again

I decided not to purchase the fish @ neptunes , but rather wait for a larger one.
I had concerns about care of such a small fish in my system.
The color morph at maturity is facinating to me.

I am really looking forward to this fish.
This will make a badass final fish.
I keep reading about them having a very "outgoing" personality.
Anybody w/ this big a mixed reef need a couple of frag makin tangs right ;)
