Does "Kent Nitrate Sponge" do anything?

I was given a bucket of this, I tossed 5 cups of it into a mesh bag and sank it in my sump/fuge. Does it even do anything? Or would I benefit more from just putting a lump of LR in the sump instead?

LR does very little in the way of nitrate export so anything would be better then that.

Gresham, do you have any good reading on anaerobic nitrate removal via live rocks vs macro uptake?

Dr. Tim Hovanec had a paper out there IIRC on live rock anaerobic. I don't know of any comparison studies though, sorry.

I tried it, saw no change over time then I switched to a Sulfur based reactor and am happy with it.
Not saying it does not work but my experience with it.
