Dual stage temp control?

Coral reefer

Past President
When using a dual stage temp controller with a chiller that has it's own thermostat you are screwed if the chillers internal thermostat goes out correct? If your controller and chiller don't agree on temp it's no good, do people think having a chiller without on board temp control (just on or off) is better if you use a controller? Basically, if your chiller has thermostat built in, then just buy a single stage ranco, no need for duplicity?

I would use a reef controller with its on temp senors, if your chiller has an internal thermostat just set it a little colder than the actual setting on the controller.

Im not sure about the internal chiller thermostat failing, if it leaves the chiller ON or OFF? But if it does fail and leaves the chiller ON it wont matter because the reef controlller thermostat will shut off the outlet to the chiller.

Thats how I set up my heaters to work its kinnda like a double safe. I dont know what chiller and controller you have but hopefully that helps.
