Mangrove question

Quick question about Mangroves -excuse this question if the answer is overly obvious.

Mangroves have massive roots, but what would happen if say; I got a mangrove pod, and attached a magnet to the side of the mangrove (superglue).
This way I could have the mangrove pod vertical on the back wall of my tank, only the roots would not have anything to grow into.
Would the mangrove just die?

It would be fine, my only concern is the glue on the mangrove, not sure if that would be bad or not. They can grow without substrate of any kind, you will actually get larger more diverse roots as they are looking for a hold fast.

I like that idea- kinda wild but mangroves are so cheap why not give it a try? The roots would just keep extending down until they hit something.

my 5 mangroves are growing fine (or well enough at least) without being planted in anything. Just need to make sure to keep them above the water level (they don't like being fully submerged..heh...go figure)
