Never tried algae free but my MM work very well and remove the algae 'dots' that my other magents don't remove.

The strength of the MM coupled with the "sock" is golden.

After hearing rave reviews about Mighty Magnets from other club members, I ordered one online--with extra felt pieces & scrubber pads. The guy who makes them is very responsive & nice. I had a shipping problem, and the MM owner was extremely helpful. I like my magnet cleaner so far!

IMO the key isn't so much the magnet you go with, but the claims of the manufacturer with what thickness it's good for. Those cheapy Chinese ones that cost $7 for a "large" magnet will hold onto 1/2" pane but the strength is so weak that it won't scrub for squat, and if you move it too fast you'll lose your inside magnet.

Problem is no one tells you their magnet strength to compare to and you have to go by reviews of others.

I've seen the MM in action and they're great and strong, I personally went with a magnavore magnet and it's also pretty damn strong.
