Steinhart Aquarium presentation Oct 13th

BAR will host a presentation by the Steinhart Aquarium on Saturday, October 13th.
The meeting will be at ASAP (http://www.bareefers.org/ASAP%20Directions.aspx) and will begin at 1pm.
Hope to see you all there!-Jim

A major component of the Steinhart Aquarium's $450 million renovation in Golden Gate Park is a 200,000 gallon living coral reef tank and shark lagoon. This represents the largest living coral reef undertaken in this hempisphere, and the deepest in the world. Steinhart biologist Matt Wandell will give us a behind the scenes look at the design and construction of this unique exhibit due to open in late 2008

I just wanted to say thanks to all the BOD (and the sponsors). This was my first meeting and my son and I had a great time!

Thank you to all that attended the Steinhart presentation. That was a very nice turnout!

Thanks to Matt for taking the time to give us the virtual tour and answer all our questions on the new aquarium facilities.

Much appreciation to the BOD for making this meeting happen. And special thanks to our sponsors* for supporting our club with the awesome raffle items.

Did they actually had to move sharks using BARE hands? It's bad for fish.
What about gloves? Nets? Brrrr.

Actually, bare hands (well rinsed) are better for fish than nets. Nets are abrasive and fish can get spines stuck in them.

Sure, but they are also on the nets - and everything else. :D The biggest problem with nets, IMO, is they can strip the slime coat off fish which makes them more prone to disease. Hands don't do that.
