What are yout thoughts on Flame Wrasses?

Hey, I have a guy who wants to trade some of my equipment for a pair of Flame Wrasses. Particularly he says they will be a male/female "juvenile" pair. Any thoughts on this? Is there anything I need to know about Flames and compatibility with other wrasses/fish?

What kind or wrasses/fish do you have? IMO two fish should not be called a pair until one turns male. When the fish are juveniles both are females.

Hey Ian,

The only other wrasse I have right now is a yellow coris wrasse. But, I was planning on getting a 6-line as well.

Great! From a person who can name more species of coral and fish by latin name than almost anyone I know I get:
Flames are pretty.
Thanks for the insight. ::)

Ian, will the six-line really be a bully? I thought they were passive.

Some info.

They are one my my favorite wrasses. I relegated my lineatus to my frag tank so I could get more flames. My last super male was chased out by my lineatus even though I have a netting over my tank.

Matt how big is your tank? I seem to recall you looking for "small fish" while flames aren't particularly large they are hardly a small fish tank type of fish.

I am not too enthused by pairs of wrasses anymore - people tend to end up with just one.

Other than that, one of my favorite fish.

6 lines are evil, in a bad way.

Well the price was much higher in the past $300+ range. I think you can get them for half that now, of course it has been a bit since I've been in the store to compare prices (don't use online prices as a gauge, they tend to reflect the changing market much less)

I know this is an old thread but I searched it out as I just lost my male Flame. I did some searching while he was in hiding since I observed my female flame being chased by my Mystery. I found some RC posts about the Mystery killing their Flames. I've had my Mystery for about 8 months and the Flames for about 4 months and haven't observed problems so this just came on in the past few days. So, live and learn - Mystery wrasses and fairies are problematic. :((
