High Tide Aquatics

What is this??

Went tide-pooling today in Elk (near Mendocino) and found the usual Nem's and sea stars. However, I came across this guy and had NO idea what it was/is.

Looking from top: About 12 inches long, semi-solid dark red outer "shell", and no eyes (that I could see).
Looking from underneath: snail mouth, smooth snail body, and what looked like dozens of sea star "fingers" hidden on the sides next to his body.

Strangest thing I've seen since this morning when I looked in the mirror. ha!

Thanks for the help.

Looks like you are ready to chomp down on whatever it is:)
A sea cucumber?
I am thinking of doing the same thing to set up a cold water tank outside with a girabaldi damsel.
Did you collect anything while out there?

OMG!
limosa Limax ruber morse
Usually after a day or two after handling this you will notice a rash.
Things will start to get worse for you after that.
I am so sorry.
Set up the trust, write the will. Make haste!

Girabaldi are fine to keep in semi tropical and even tropical tanks given the only legal ones are from south of the border. Our state fish is protected from collection.
