Friend’s tank crash

Hi everyone! I’m sorta new here, I’ve been around on the facebook pages but finally got a chance to join the BARs club. This week I helped a good friend of mine transfer her 75g tank from her old house to her new house. The move went smoothly so we thought but the following day was a nightmare for her to wake up to. All her lps and sps were dying if not already gone. We matched all the parameters from the old tank and kept the same rock structure/par and used new sand but same filter media for the bacteria. Along with the amount of corals she lost, she also lost her yellow tang. With the move money is tight and she was thinking of just breaking the tank down but I couldn’t let that happen! I offered her as many of my pieces as I had to start the rebuild to give her hope, the hobby is already so niche and having friends to talk to this stuff about helps so much. Im hoping to help her out by posting here and asking the community for any coral donations or cheap frags for her to recoup. She lost all her hammers and torches, neon green candy canes, acans, birds nest, and some other sps. Getting any of these again or similar corals would be awesome. These were corals she had since they were just a tiny frag with 1-2 heads so its been brutal losing them all. Here are some before and after pics, it’s not pretty. We’d be grateful for any help!

Man, that sucks! I agree with @Coral reefer, have her join as supporting member and be part of the community, there are a lot of folks who be willing to help.

Creating a journal would help too, I know if I give someone a coral I like to see how it is doing.

Where is the tank located? I have some easy SPS I can frag.

She’s in Stockton but we travel to the bay for coral adventures often. She’s not really savvy with posting and the pages but I’ll get her to try! Lol

Hey everyone, I just made an account! I’m the one who’s going through this tank crash

Welcome, and sorry about your losses. Tank moves can be tricky.

As suggested above, become a (club) supporting member, like your friend, and we, the club, will support you.

Once you have done that, feel free to reach out and I can share a few frags with you - if Walnut Creek is not too far for you.

How long has the tank been set up again since the crash? Any ideas or thoughts as to why it crashed? Disturbing the sand bed by chance?

Have any water tests been done since this happen if so what do the numbers look like?

I ask all these questions just to gauge if things are stable and new corals won't also be placed in any poor conditions.

I highly recommend consider becoming a supporting member you will find members are often willing to go out of their way to help each other. This is a awesome club and I can't stress enough the amount of experience within the club. I have a few soft corals I would be willing to contribute to the cause. Leathers, mushrooms, and zoas.

I’m not positive why it crashed, we moved it from one house to the other as smoothly and as quickly as possible. The parameters read fine just The salinity was at 0.27…my refractometer wasnt calibrated, so it read lower. I’m thinking it was that. I used new same, but the same rock, majority of the old water. I wouldn’t want to add any coral to the tank just yet..I’m currently still finding new things that didn’t make the transfer and discarding them. Thank you so much.

Sad to hear of this.
And glad to see that you’ve made it to our club.
The membership dues are less than any of the corals or fish that you’ve lost.
$upporting members get the most love.
You could probably replace most of your corals via club generosity and the frag swaps.
Water changes are your best friend

You used the same sand from location #1 > location #2? How deep is the sandbed?

Parameters were solid, ph 8.2 kh 10 mag 1440 ca 430, im guessing it was salinity being too high. All her softies managed to pull through.
