I know there are some other Central Valley dwellers here so figured I’d share. I needed some food over the weekend and decided to head over to Tropical Haven. It’s been a while, and I was sad to hear the owner had passed away. Luckily it sounds like his legacy will be carried on and given new life though!

There’s a new owner (I didn’t get to meet), and one of the employees told me he’s ordering a bunch of new tanks etc. The plans to revamp everything including making the saltwater section larger.

A lot of the tanks were empty, the store really, which is why I asked some questions. The dry goods area was laid out differently so maybe that’s a good sign. The general cleanliness was above average for what’s been expected, so that was good too. I hope there’s truth to this and we might get a little gem out this way.

Side note, Canela Pet Shop had a bunch of Pajamas for $10ea and a half dozen harlequin shrimp for $35ea. Think the guy mixed up some pricing but I grabbed a pair of pj’s lol.

I stopped in the other day and asked if he had plans in stocking some reef tank consumables, like t5 bulbs.

He seems like he is still catching up and corals isn't something he is very familiar with. We talked a little about me helping set up a reef display to attract customers so it's sounds a lot more promising than how Ted managed things.

The tank stand frames are still super sketch but have been reinforced with extra wood screws now lol. They are going to fall over one day.

He mentioned looking for help with saltwater but I doubt he can afford to pay a living wage for someone to actually keep their own tank much less years of experience.

The old dog pee covered carpet has been ripped out and the floor is lenolium at least. I'm looking forward to having something local but I am also driving to SJ daily now so it's a little late.

That’s cool you got to meet him, and there’s at least a chance things will get better. Don’t minimize those additional wood screws man, it felt so much safer walking the kids around in there lol.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. But like you I’m in the Bay Area daily anyway so it’s not like I’m losing sleep over it
