Saturday the 17th was a busy day for the wife and I. Before the pot luck, the wife and I headed to SF to meet up with Euod for his Oceanic 90 gallon. I also purchased a Reef Octopus skimmer from him.

We loaded the tank into the Crosstrek, strapped the stand to the roof, and home we went. Dropped off the tank, and turned around to Castro Valley.

Sunday we spent most of the morning cleaning the tank, and sump.

the wife wanted the tank a bit taller. So I made a new base for the stand. The stand will get attached to the new base, and also couple straps to the wall.

I got the new bulkheads installed, and am working on the plumbing. The tank originally had a Durso drain with an emergency overflow. I am changing the tank to a Herbi drain, and emergency overflow

Next will be filling the tank with fresh water and letting it sit. The tank shows no signs of leak, and I figure this will be a good way to tune the Herbi. I read optimal is 2” below the water line in the weare box’ water line.

Move the tank to the right…. No left….wait…. What about over here….no move it back. I want the 30 gallon upstairs…. I want the 30 gallon sold…. Wait move the stand next to the 30….

Can we have 2 reef tanks?

Finally settled on current spot. I am betting when the 90 is on the stand I have to move it again

If ur keeping both highly recommended space between them crap happens and u may want to clean glass, add equipment, wavemakers the list could go on.

I would think maybe 6inches to a ft+ at the least. Only my opinion for what it's worth. So I'm not implying anything horrible from them being close is gonna happen, just thinking about potential future needs.

* and if any light comes through the blinds or you open it, maybe a curtain to limit light hitting tank. Unless the back of tank is painted/ have a background

The back of the tank is black, and gets maybe 1 hour of direct sun light.

You make a good argument on the spacing though! Didn’t even think of that

Yes! It would suck to potentially have to entirely drain one of them in the future to move it only to make space to add a powerhead or anything lol.

Doors are on stand and rock is being designed. I do have a bucket of live rock that will go in this weekend when we fill the tank.

Thanks Michael for the water containers. Will definitely make filling the tank go faster.

No pictures, but I do have an update!

The tank and sump took 100 gallons of water to fill. I am using an AI Axis 90 pump set to 95% and there is an anti drainback valve on the supply. The return (Herbie) is open 90% using a Georg Fischer diaphragm gate valve that I got for $20(new!). The water line is 1/4" below the emergency overflow. The tank is whisper quiet. The Reef Octopus is shut off, and currently there is no filtration in the sump. The middle chamber is filled with rubble, and some live rock from my 30 gallon. Third chamber is heater and pump. Also we installed an AI Orbit 2 in the tank.... and proceeded to blow away our sand due to having it aimed incorrectly.

Last night we poured in a bottle of Dr Tim's One & Only along with 4 teaspoons of Ammonium Chloride. The skimmer is off, and again I have no filter at the moment.

Future purchases. Another Orbit 2 for the other end of the tank, Either two Hydra 32HD Pros or two Radeon XR15 Pros. I read that the Hydra 32s are no longer made, but BRS still has them and I think Neptune has a pair of the Pros as well. AC does not have them anymore. I don't have Kessil money at the moment. We did check some other lights, but the wife and I really want to keep to one app. And this may cause some hate, but we do like the Mobius App. it works well for us. The other is that I still have two more Vegas in a box. My wife really does not want to use the Vega, she hates the little controller with a passion. But we have them, they work, and at 100% are brighter than the sun itself. Down side is the controller, and I only have one controller, so the 90 and my 30 would have to share the controller, and thus be on the same schedule and lighting parameters.

More to come
