Stopped by Cali kids today. He got a fish shipment in and had a nice lineatus wrasse. Had to exercise some self control. Not quite ready to add a fish. Had some bimac anthias too. Some nice torches. Going out of town for a bit. Don’t like adding anything before I leave town.
Oh well, next time.

Good idea not getting a new fish - well done!

Lineatus are a beautiful wrasse. They are very difficult to keep. Make sure it’s eating before you buy and check its mouth and spine to make sure it’s not damaged.

I had a Lineatus for 6 months then it got spooked and ran into the glass and damaged its jaw. It couldn’t eat after that and ended up starving.

Any signs of transitioning to male yet?
Not yet, juvenile Females are not as pretty as the male adults which are the colorful fish we see online.. I heard the lifespan of these wrasses after they turn what they call in stores as 'Supermales' is only a couple of years, not sure how true is that, but given that most wrasses live for 5-7 years only, it is always better to get them in a juvenile state and enjoy them while they transition. Of all the wrasses I currently have, Orange back fairy wrasse is my favorite - what beautiful colors! I am certain, my #1 will change with time!

Here is a short video I took this morning of the lineatus wrasse:

I've heard taping a mirror once or twice a week to the tank may accelerate the transitioning since it thinks there's competition. Once they transition to male the mirror is still used because the new male thinks there's more males so ups the game with super nova male colors.. I remember reading about this when I first started using the mirror trick when adding new fish which works great. Did notice my existing Halichoeres melanurus colors definitely got a bit brighter with the mirror as well as my blonde naso lips got super bright.. Mirror down lips turned duller..

This is intresting. Probably impossible to prove. But being a guy seeing a contender lol I can easily imagine it bringing out the natural male competitive side.

All that to say I honestly can imagine this possibly being true in some ways.
