Kalkwasser and SPS dominated Tanks 150-200g

Nobody I know that has a large SPS dominated tank (myself included) is able to cover consumption with kalkwasser alone. We are all using kalk to replace as much of the ATO water as possible, but it's not more than 1-2gallons in most cases which isn't enough kalk to offset the alk needs alone...

    High Ph

Are you sure this is even correct? have you calibrated recently and checked it against a 2nd PH probe? These things are wrong all the time - maybe even most of the time.

High daily alkalinity consumption - need advice

This is the only real answer. You are the victim of a very small tank!

Electrical advice - lighting fixtures - needs professional help (potentially)

Your entire setup is on one single outlet? That’s not a great idea in general, but you’re also probably close to overloading the capacity of the outlet. That’s probably not the issue here, just saying. The clicking is probably just the relays going on and off, which sounds like probably...

    2025 Q2 Photo Contest

Perhaps rather than leaving submissions open for the entire quarter, let’s just open them up for a week or two - with a few announcements to build a little hype and get people aware? I like the quarterly cadence but I admit I completely forget about the contest this way.

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

I already have some chunky frags of this, can I pull the rock and kill the zoas somehow? Kalk paste?

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

I have been running whiter peak lighting during the day and really enjoying the way the fish look. Always taking blue light / orange filter pics so decided to shoot some white light corals this time: cb flaming unicorn jf robins egg POTO golden dragon yoda something or other...

If you nutrients are stable - that seems like a good thing, no? Your import/export is in balance. Why not just do a few water changes to lower them to where you want them, and presumably they will stay stable at the lower level. As noted above, skimmers don't remove no3/po4 that is already...

Based on all of the discussion above - what made you think changing skimmer settings would reduce nutrients?

Perhaps you DO need just need a fancier skimmer ;)

My nitrates right now are holding steady at 7-9 and my phosphates pretty steady right around .07 I am no longer dosing LC or doing anything for phosphate control at all. I dose 15ml of vodka daily - though I don't think this has a big impact on nitrates in my case, my corals seem happier so...

@Alexander1312 My skimmer is in exactly 8" of water (mine is the 220, not the 200 - FYI. my system is also quite a bit larger though). My pump is set to "3" which is the middle setting. My water level is set to ~4.25 right now, which is a fairly dry setting. I am getting some super nasty gunk...

    Dangalang Laundry Room Frag Tank

That fruity pebbles looks so good I should give you the mother colony to color up and return to me. Would be an interesting experiment. Edit - Also, fuck you!!

Also make sure you are doing this for the right reasons - skimming wet probably actually pulls out more stuff overall, it just does it much less efficiently since it's also pulling a lot more water. This just means your salinity is impacted more and you have to empty your cup more often which is...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Agree w/ @RandyC it still looks like the water is too high to me - that looks to be a pretty wet skim. See how it goes, but see the note I added above - dry gunky skim fills much slower and with bigger bubbles like Randy said. Set it even lower and then leave it alone for a couple days. Keep...

I actually don't put LC anymore as my Po4 is pretty low now, although I doubt that matters. Certainly our husbandry differs but there a lot of people out there who love their reef octo skimmers, all using a lot of different husbandry methods...perhaps your specific combination of actions impairs...
