Kalkwasser and SPS dominated Tanks 150-200g

This is how I am thinking about it. I think the folks who can't make sense of Carx just don't have a tank that demands one yet. They never made much sense to me either until my tank got to the point where I am now having to dump enormous amounts of liquid (kalk, alk, ca) into the tank every...

Strip lighting -what are people using?

Any strip light that uses heatsinks instead of fans (which I think is basically all of them? not sure about the AI blade - do they have fans?) is going to have a similar disclaimer concern. The heat has to go somewhere, regardless of the light. They all produce heat!

Strip lighting -what are people using?

The build quality of the Quanta Helix bars is very good, and they come with an excellent power supply. Not a big fan of the white spectrum light (just sold mine) but the meso blues ones are pretty great, I have 2x 71" over my tank. No need to fuss with ramping on supplemental lighting IMO -...

Kalkwasser and SPS dominated Tanks 150-200g

I don't really use kalk to save money (and am not really a huge fan of it myself in general) I use it so that I can refill my ATO way less often and refill my 2part jugs way less often - both are tedious chores. I would never in a million years use kalk if I had it in anything smaller than a 40g...

    High Ph

I didn't want to introduce too much science into this thread, but 8.6 PH is practically impossible without sky high alk (like 20+) or some other major manipulation of Co2 levels inside the tank. So this doesn't surprise me :) glad you figured it out.

Kalkwasser and SPS dominated Tanks 150-200g

Nobody I know that has a large SPS dominated tank (myself included) is able to cover consumption with kalkwasser alone. We are all using kalk to replace as much of the ATO water as possible, but it's not more than 1-2gallons in most cases which isn't enough kalk to offset the alk needs alone...

    High Ph

Are you sure this is even correct? have you calibrated recently and checked it against a 2nd PH probe? These things are wrong all the time - maybe even most of the time.

Electrical advice - lighting fixtures - needs professional help (potentially)

Your entire setup is on one single outlet? That’s not a great idea in general, but you’re also probably close to overloading the capacity of the outlet. That’s probably not the issue here, just saying. The clicking is probably just the relays going on and off, which sounds like probably...

    2025 Q2 Photo Contest

Perhaps rather than leaving submissions open for the entire quarter, let’s just open them up for a week or two - with a few announcements to build a little hype and get people aware? I like the quarterly cadence but I admit I completely forget about the contest this way.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

If you nutrients are stable - that seems like a good thing, no? Your import/export is in balance. Why not just do a few water changes to lower them to where you want them, and presumably they will stay stable at the lower level. As noted above, skimmers don't remove no3/po4 that is already...
