Your no. 1 (overlooked) thing to plan for when going on extended vacation

I put an inline check valve on it so it requires a pump for water to flow. First time testing it out I let it run for 2 days and found this out the hard way. Luckily there was no fish or coral in my system yet. Good call out tho!

Your no. 1 (overlooked) thing to plan for when going on extended vacation

Depending on how many people live in your house, your Ph may run higher when away. I notice that effect on my own tank if I'm out for the weekend. If you have any dosing that's dependant on ph, take that into consideration

Your no. 1 (overlooked) thing to plan for when going on extended vacation

I wouldnt make any adjustments to equipment 4 days before my trip just to see how it would perform. Simulate a power outage and cut all power for 30 minutes to observe if contingency plan comes on as expected. Upon power up, see if you can access your tank remotely again. All other important...

    Swimming Anemones?!?!

First time seeing a swimming one. I did, however, just have a pissed off haddoni that didn't like flow go for a flying tour of my tank. I walked by at 1am to see him clinging on to a blue stag, freaked out and placed him back in the sand..now he's settled in back of my rock work where I can...

    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

Fishing out amphipods sounds tedious..if I had some already established fuges, I'd probably done the same..how's the fuge handling your nutrients? I just got my algae reactor going after getting a little to heavyhanded with feedings and found my PO4 hitting 0.13

Ohh yea, and for all of your power bricks, I would space those out. Buy or find someone who can 3D print you a brick holder. Those things get hot and a bunch of them touching is a recipe for disaster.

I ran my wet lines outside of a track, all just after of preference. Right above the wet lines are two tracks that house all of my cords. While it's a snug fit, the one I posted above should house any cords needed and still leave room to work in. Just make sure to label everything so it's easy...

Yea..flipping through each disk individually is no fun...I dunked it in a 2 gallon bucket thinking it would be easier but the disc all stick together when in water. The water pressure in my bathroom wasn't enough to dislodge it..well see how the hose pans out in 3 days. If it saves me from...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

Installed the disc filters on Thursday am and this is what they have collected up until now. Keeping my cadence of cleaning after 3 days, I found that the filters amazingly held up. I expected them to clog up quick and overflow into itself but that wasn't the case. I doubt it would have lasted...

Are you running the DC ones? I'm finding the noise from the air silencer to be louder than the pump. But then again, it's encased inside the body of the skimmer so that maybe helps muffle the sound

The newest resident. Ive been going back and fourth between the blue and red haddoni for a while now. Just got done with a 10 day cipro treatment in QT. It didn't like it all that much plus the lack of lighting on the QT didn't help. The blue is a little subdued compared to when I got it, but im...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

First 24 hours in operation and it appears to be holding up well. No overflowing and visibility catching larger particles. I feed quite a bit...reef Jerky 4 timed a day, TDO pellets twice a day, Rods food once or twice a day, depending if I'm home.
